Man Detained With His Mother in Nancy Guthrie Case Speaks Out

The search for Nancy Guthrie has now stretched beyond one month, and an Arizona man briefly detained in connection with her disappearance is speaking publicly for the first time.

Guthrie, 84 — the mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie — was reported missing after she was taken from her Tucson home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1, according to police.

On Feb. 13, a SWAT team executed search warrants at the Tucson home of 37-year-old Luke Daley and his 77-year-old mother, who live about two miles from Nancy.

Daley Speaks Out

Both were detained for hours while the warrants were carried out but were later released without charges.

In an interview with “True Crime Arizona” host Briana Whitney released Monday, March 2, Daley denied any involvement in the case.

“It’s not me,” he said. “I don’t see the resemblance of it looking like me. Absolutely not. I have nothing to do with this case.”

Daley believes investigators focused on him after social media users speculated that he resembled a masked, armed individual captured on Nest doorbell footage the night Nancy disappeared.

“Someone says something and then they just go off of it based on no evidence, no truth,” he said.

He reiterated that he has no connection to the case and no knowledge of who might be responsible.

“I, like everyone else, just want Nancy to come home and be safe,” Daley said. “But that being said, I have nothing to do with this case.”

He added that if he had any information, he would provide it to authorities.

Daley Details Being Detained

Daley said he was detained for about four or five hours in the back of the police car.

“It was tough,” he added about the whole experience. Daley said he was panicked while in the car as he was worried he was going to be framed.

Daley noted the police never told him why he was detained in connection to the case.

At the time of the search, Daley’s attorney, Chris Scileppi, confirmed to KPNX-TV that two search warrants were executed on Feb. 13, 2026.

“Daley and his mother were both detained by law enforcement while the search warrants were being executed,” Scileppi said in a statement. “Neither Daley nor his mother were arrested in connection to this case or any other. Daley has no link whatsoever to Nancy Guthrie and has no information related to her kidnapping. Like the entire Tucson community, both Daley and his mother are hopeful that Nancy will be returned to her family unharmed.”

As the investigation continues, authorities have not announced any arrests.

Meanwhile, on Monday, March 2, Nancy’s family was spotted leaving flowers at the makeshift display at her home.
