Sheriff Says Investigators Have ‘Moved On’ From Men Detained in Nancy Guthrie Case

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has “moved on” from two men who were previously detained early on in the investigation of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. The 84-year-old mother of broadcaster Savannah Guthrie has been missing for five weeks now, following her abduction from her home in Tucson, Arizona in what police say they are treating as a kidnapping

Early on in the investigation, two men were detained by law enforcement but the sheriff’s department has now confirmed that these two individuals are not involved in the case and that the investigation has gone in a different direction as they were questioned.

Although there has not yet been any major breakthrough in the case, law enforcement officers have previously detained several individuals as they continue their investigation and attempt to locate Nancy. In total, three people were taken into custody briefly after SWAT raids on residences in Arizona.

Two of those who were detained were Luke Daley and Carlos Palazuelos. However, they were quickly released without charge and seemingly had no connection to the case. That hasn’t stopped members of the public continuing to speculate that these men are somehow involved in the case.

Now, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has spoken out to explain that his team no longer considers the men to be suspects and that the investigation has moved away from them after they were questioned.

Nanos explained to Fox News why and how the raids that led to the men being detained were carried out, saying, “What I will say is, we had what we believed to be probable cause to take action against both those individuals and the residence they occupied. That probable cause that we felt was strong was given to the U.S. Attorney, the county attorney and a magistrate, a judge, and they agreed that, ‘yes, here’s a warrant, go perform your duties.'”

“That court order, that warrant in both cases was served, and we got what we got from it, and we’re moving on,” Nanos concluded.

A number of people previously linked to the Nancy kidnapping case have since spoken out about their lives have been affected by being connected to the investigation.

Palazuelos told ABC15 that, despite not having anything to do with the disappearance of Nancy, he has continually been harassed by members of the public and now lives in fear.

“People taking pictures of us or following us. Like yesterday, we went out dashing, and we got home, and there was this red truck following us;” Palazuelos said. “This morning it was there too. So, it’s been kind of scary for me and for my wife, my kids and everybody.”
