Nancy Guthrie Case: Neighbor Reports Seeing ‘Suspicious Man’ Before Kidnapping

The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie is now well over a month. The mother of broadcaster Savannah Guthrie was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona on February 1 and there has still been no breakthrough in the case to identify the suspect or locate the victim. That’s despite there being a large law enforcement presence from both the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI in what they are treating as a kidnapping.

As officers and the public look for answers, a neighbor who lives close to Nancy’s residence has revealed that they saw what they describe as a “suspicious man” in the weeks running up to the abduction.

There have been very few clues that can help pinpoint the identity of the suspect who kidnapped Nancy from her home. While law enforcement has released some information discovered from a doorbell security system at Nancy’s home, with the FBI describing him as “approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build,” little else is known about him.

An unnamed neighbor who lives near to the crime scene has now told NewsNation that they saw someone acting suspiciously weeks before Nancy was abducted and provided the FBI with information about the person.

Telling the outlet that the individual was walking towards Nancy’s home, she explained how she had seen him in the early hours of January 11.

“I’m getting ready in the morning, and I saw him out there, so I couldn’t make out his face,” the witness said. “He was in kind of street clothes, not shoes that you’d walk in, and he had a baseball hat really low, and he was kind of hunched over, and he was kind of looking around, and he just didn’t fit.”

She added, “He wasn’t going terribly quickly like a normal person who’s getting exercise. He was kind of going slowly, and when he walked by this street, he really took a long look at it.”

Although there have not been any major breakthroughs in the case yet, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department did detain a number of men in February as part of their investigation into Nancy’s disappearance.

However, those arrests did not lead to any charges and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos explained that the men are no longer considered suspects, with the department having “moved on” after they were questioned.

Nanos explained the situation to Fox News saying, “What I will say is, we had what we believed to be probable cause to take action against both those individuals and the residence they occupied. That probable cause that we felt was strong was given to the U.S. Attorney, the county attorney and a magistrate, a judge, and they agreed that, ‘yes, here’s a warrant, go perform your duties.'”

He continued, “That court order, that warrant in both cases was served, and we got what we got from it, and we’re moving on.”.
