Authorities confirmed that a vehicle connected to the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie remains in law enforcement custody.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department told Parade that the blue Honda CR-V associated with Savannah Guthrie’s sister, Annie Guthrie, and Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, had not yet been returned to the family as of Wednesday, March 11.
Officials said the vehicle will eventually be returned, but noted there is currently no confirmed timeline for when that will happen.
Vehicle Linked to Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni Still in Police Custody
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the vehicle connected to Guthrie and Cioni remains in its possession while investigators continue examining evidence.
According to Parade, authorities said they are working to return the car to the family, but do not have an exact date for when that will happen.
Additional details about the vehicle’s status were discussed during the March 10 episode of the podcast “Crime Stories with Nancy Grace.”
Investigative reporter Dave Mack explained that the vehicle is currently at a mechanic shop while still under the control of law enforcement.
“The vehicle is at the auto mechanic right now, where it is still in the custody of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, not the Guthrie’s, and is being worked on by this auto mechanic,” Mack said on the podcast.
Mack added that the vehicle was allegedly being “put back together” after investigators conducted an extensive search.
Authorities impounded the car earlier in the investigation because it was one of the last places Nancy had been before she disappeared.
Timeline of Nancy Guthrie’s Visit With Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni
Investigators previously outlined a timeline of events leading up to Nancy’s disappearance.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Nancy took an Uber to Annie’s home on Saturday, January 31.
After spending time with family and having dinner, Cioni drove his mother-in-law home later that evening. The drive reportedly took about 10 minutes.
Sheriff Chris Nanos said Cioni made sure Nancy entered her home safely before leaving.
Authorities believe that sometime during the night, a person or persons entered Nancy’s home and abducted her.
Investigators have not confirmed what occurred inside the residence or what the possible motive might have been.
Police also impounded Nancy’s personal vehicle, which was parked in her garage when authorities arrived at her home on Sunday, February 1.
Officials have not provided a recent update about the status of that vehicle.
Sheriff Chris Nanos Says Savannah Guthrie’s Entire Family Has Been Cleared
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI continue to work together on the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
Earlier in the case, Sheriff Chris Nanos addressed speculation about members of the Guthrie family and confirmed that Annie and her husband had been cleared.
In a statement released on February 16, Nanos said all immediate family members and their spouses had been eliminated as possible suspects.
“To be clear…the Guthrie family — to include all siblings and spouses — has been cleared as possible suspects in this case,” Nanos said.
“The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case.”
Nanos also urged the public and media outlets not to spread speculation about the family.
“To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel,” Nanos said. “The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple…please, I’m begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism.”
The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy remains ongoing.
