The search for Savannah Guthrie’s missing mom, Nancy Guthrie, continues as a new suspect has potentially been identified.
Journalist Ashleigh Banfield reported that Nancy’s son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, was identified as a possible suspect in the case, according to TMZ. Cioni is married to Savannah’s sister Annie.
PEOPLE reports that Nancy was “last seen alive by Annie on Saturday, Jan. 31, around 9:30 p.m., after they went out to dinner together.” It’s unclear if Cioni was present at the dinner.
Police Deny Reports That Tommaso Cioni Is A Suspect
In a post on their social media pages, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department released a statement, denying that a suspect has been identified.
“At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie,” authorities wrote. “Detectives are working closely with the Guthrie family. While we appreciate the public’s concern, the sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation.”
“No suspect or person of interest has been identified at this time,” they concluded.
This comes after the Pima County Sheriff’s Department addressed the recent reports of a ransom note on Feb. 3, making it clear that they are looking into it.
“We are aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie. We are taking all tips and leads very seriously. Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI,” the statement said, also encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
Law Enforcement Believe Nancy Guthrie Is Alive: REPORT
In a new interview with NBC’s Liz Kreutz that aired on the Today show on Wednesday, Feb. 4, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos provided a somewhat positive update in the case.
“We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here,” Pima County Nanos said (per PEOPLE). “She’s present. She’s alive, and we want to save her.”
“The leads we’ve got coming in are critical to us,” Nanos added. “They’re valuable and we’re sharing those with the FBI and others.”
In the audio from the 911 call, which Fox News Digital published, a dispatch responder can be heard saying, “Nancy, a white female, 84 years of age. 5’2, medium build. Nancy has high blood pressure, a pacemaker, and cardiac issues.”
