When James Gunn and Peter Safran took the lead of DC Studios, fans were excited what would this mean for superheroes. Many projects were give makeovers, with the much anticipated and beloved Wonder Woman coming back for a third iteration – something Gal Gadot even claimed publicly. Sadly, the plug was pulled on the project. Now, expressing her disappointment, Gadot has finally broke her silence on what happened to the project.
Gal Gadot Wasn’t ‘Surprised’ on Cancellation of Wonder Woman
In conversation with Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gadot has spilled beans on her side of the events. She wasn’t surprised that she was cut from the DCU despite being told they would continue with her. This feeling mainly came from how the situation was handled with Henry Cavill and Patty Jenkins.
Gadot said, “I saw the way everybody else was handled. The Henry [Cavill] situation was not handled elegantly to say the least. Patty [Jenkins] was not handled elegantly. We’re all adults and we’re all good.”
For those unversed, Cavill was initially planned to return to the role – all thanks to his cameo in Black Adams. Suddenly, following new leadership at DC studios, it was decided to reboot Superman with younger version of Clark Kent, ousting Cavill from the franchise. Jenkins, too, was removed, as her vision didn’t fit the creatives of the new DCU.
Gal Gadot Is Ready to Wave Goodbye to Wonder Woman
As much as it aches for fans to not see more from the Wonder Woman universe, Gadot is ready to pass on the lasso to new talent.
GettyIn the same conversation, Gadot expressed her gratitude for landing the role and wished nothing but the best to whoever takes the baton. She said, “I am so grateful I got the opportunity to wear these boots and have the character be so celebrated. I can only wish whoever is next comes pure to this journey. This character means so much to so many of us. It was never mine. I was always just a vessel. This is Hollywood.”
From her end, she sealed the fate of Amazonian warrior: “For me to go to do another Wonder Woman, I am not sure I would at this point in my life…”
New Wonder Woman Film Is Still on
Gadot has left big shoes for DC to fill, and James Gunn is making sure to leave no stone unturned to fill them “elegantly.”
GettyEver since, James has teased the fans about the project – the needle hasn’t moved much, but it’s happening. Supergirl screenwriter Ana Nogueira was tapped to write the scripts. There is not confirmed cast yet because Gunn is waiting for that perfect candidate as soon as the story finished. Though many speculation has pointed towards actress Adria Arjona as a leading contender, especially following reports regarding her intense physical training and rumored involvement in upcoming DC projects like Man of Tomorrow.
Additionally, the new Wonder Woman project has no release schedule yet.
Gadot is currently promoting her next film The Runner that is schedule to release on theaters September 11th.
