Eva Longoria, 51, Tackles Motherhood in Rare Photos with Her 7-Year-Old Son Santiago

Eva Longoria, 51, shared a rare glimpse into what life looks like as a first-time mom to her son, Santiago Enrique Bastón, 7, whom she shares with husband José “Pepe” Bastón.

Longoria posted a 9-photo Instagram carousel on Sunday, May 10, full of images and short videos of moments shared with Santiago.

From a throwback image of herself holding baby Santiago to snaps of her mom, Ella Eva Mireles, enjoying life as a grandma to a clip of Longoria directing a film set with Santiago in her arms, the “Desperate Housewives” star has surely reveled in motherhood since the birth of her son in June 2018.

Eva Longoria Shares Rare Photos with Son Santiago

Longoria, who has worked in film and television since the late 90s when she landed one of her first acting roles in “Beverly Hills, 90210,” wrote in her Instagram caption that out of all the roles she has played, motherhood has been the most special.

“Motherhood has been my most favorite role and I’m sending love to all of those who take on that role, no matter what it looks like,” Longoria shared.

The actress also posted a video on her Instagram Story, showing Santiago waking her up in bed by handing her a white rose.

Longoria and her husband, an established businessman and former president of the Latin American media company Televisa, tied the knot in May 2016 after having met in 2013.

The UnbeliEVAble Entertainment founder told PEOPLE that she and Bastón didn’t quite hit it off when they first met but reconnected six months later. The couple soon fell in love before Bastón asked Longoria to marry him during a trip to Dubai in 2015.

“I was getting out of a bad relationship, and he was getting out of a relationship, so there wasn’t a connection,” Longoria explained of her and her now-husband. “So, we had a pleasant conversation but there was no real connection.”

Eva Longoria Opens Up About Becoming a Mother in Her 40s

Longoria and Bastón wed in a sunset ceremony in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, in May 2016. Despite having already been married twice, Longoria told PEOPLE that once she fell for Bastón, she realized it was always him who her heart was after.

“People ask us how it is being married now, but we were always married in our hearts and our souls, so the wedding was just a beautiful party to celebrate with everyone,” Longoria said.

Although Longoria candidly shared with PEOPLE that becoming a mom in her 40s would be ideal if she were in her “20-year-old body” so she could easily endure all of the adventures to come with her son, she noted that nothing else compares to what she’s experienced as a mom to Santiago.

“You have so much more wisdom and patience when you become a mother in your forties,” Longoria shared. “It was all about me for so long. Forty years of me was enough time, so I was really blessed to have my child later in life because I had traveled; I’d done everything I needed to do for my career. Now everything I do is just icing on the cake, and I get to do that with my son.”
