Golden Globes to Honor Celebrated Actress During New TV Special Tonight (1/8/2026)

The Golden Globes are kicking off their 2026 celebrations with a major moment for fans and Hollywood alike. Tonight, the all-new primetime special “Golden Eve” shines a spotlight on one of the industry’s most beloved and respected talents: Dame Helen Mirren. Previously announced in November 2025, Mirren will receive the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award. Basically, a lifetime achievement award, to honor recognizing an artist’s lasting impact on entertainment and culture.

It seems like the perfect way to start Golden Week. Giving fans a chance to celebrate icons beyond the main ceremony. For those who’ve always wanted a front-row seat to the Globes magic, tonight is the night. “Golden Eve” airs at 8:00 PM ET on CBS, with streaming on Paramount+.

What Makes This Award So Special?

Overall, this award is special because it isn’t handed out lightly. It “was first created in 1952 and honoring the eponymous director, the Cecil B. DeMille Award has been bestowed on 69 honorees drawn from Hollywood’s greatest and most iconic talents including Barbra Streisand, Jack Warner, Oprah Winfrey, Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Viola Davis, and Walt Disney,” according to a Golden Globes press release.

Mirren’s career is a masterclass in versatility and longevity, spanning decades of film, television, and stage work. She’s perhaps best known for her Oscar-winning turn as Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen.” But she also wow-ed audiences in films like “Gosford Park,” “The Last Station,” “Red,” and more recently “Thursday Murder Club.” On TV, she’s been just as iconic, from the detective drama “Prime Suspect” to her 2019 work in “Catherine the Great.” Her stage roles and countless other film characters show she can slip into any character with effortless grace. And to us, at least, it seems like there’s nothing she can’t do.

Let’s be real; there’s no one more deserving to join that legendary list of honorees. And fans will get to witness her celebrated in style tonight.

‘Golden Eve’ Becomes A Celebration for Everyone

So, what exactly is “Golden Eve?” Previously, this was a private pre-awards party reserved for nominees and industry insiders. Now, for the first time, viewers get to see the magic unfold live. The event will showcase both the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Helen Mirren and the Carol Burnett Award, which this year goes to Sarah Jessica Parker.

Jay Penske, CEO of Dick Clark Productions, explained it best:

“We are so excited to expand our partnership with CBS and bring the Golden Globes to an even wider audience across the Paramount portfolio. With ‘Golden Eve,’ we will celebrate the industry’s most talented and influential figures, recognizing the recipients of the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award and Carol Burnett Award. This is a chance to properly honor those who have so profoundly shaped our culture, with more than a two-minute awards moment. This event and special will occur during ‘Golden Week,’ a premier cross-platform initiative with CBS that transforms the Globes into a multi-day cultural event, making it a cornerstone of the awards season.”

Fans tuning in tonight are in for a night of glamour, heartfelt speeches, and unforgettable moments. So, it seems like the Golden Globes are giving viewers more than just a pre-show. They’re offering a full celebration of talent, legacy, and the magic of Hollywood.

See it all tonight at 8:00pm ET on CBS for “Golden Eve” ahead of the Golden Globes 2026 on January 11.
