James Ransone’s sudden death sent shockwaves through the entertainment community. In the days following his passing, additional details have emerged about the cause of his death. The actor, 46, passed away on December 19, 2025, as reported by TMZ on 21st of December.

GettyAccording to a death certificate obtained by People on Wednesday, January 7, Ransone died by suicide. As per the document dated December 29, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner had previously ruled his death an apparent suicide.
The star was best known for his role as Ziggy Sobotka on HBO’s “The Wire.” He also portrayed the adult version of Eddie Kaspbrak in “It: Chapter Two,” the sequel to the Stephen King adaptation.
Ransone’s career also included roles in “The Black Phone,” its upcoming sequel “Black Phone 2,” “Law & Order,” “Hawaii Five-0,” and Sean Baker’s 2015 film “Tangerine.”
He was born June 2, 1979, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Joyce Peterson and James Ransone II.
Ransone’s Loving Wife Jamie Shares Emotional Tribute
Two days after his death, Ransone’s wife, Jamie, penned a heartbreaking note for her beloved husband. In her brief but loving note, she expressed her grief and the love she shared with Ransone.
“I told you I have loved you 1000 times before, and I know I will love you again. You told me — I need to be more like you, and you need to be more like me — and you were so right,” she wrote.
“Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts — you, Jack and Violet. We are forever,” she added, referring to the couple’s two children.
Friends and Costars Remember Ransone

Natasha Lyonne, who recently worked with Ransone on season two of “Poker Face,” also shared a message in the comments of Jamie’s tribute.
“Love you with everything I got and holding our beloved brilliant peejo with grace, gratitude, and cosmic peace into this life and the next — family forever ♾️ beautiful jamie you are the best of us, we love you,” Lyonne wrote, as reported by US Weekly.
The reality star and son of Ozzy Osbourne also paid a lengthy, tear-jerking tribute to “PJ” Ransone, remembering a friendship that spanned nearly 24 years. His note was a reminder that their friendship was filled with laughter, late-night conversations, and shared history.
“Rest peacefully, James ‘PJ’ Ransone. I will miss you deeply. The crazy chats, the laughter, all of it,” Osbourne wrote. “I was so lucky to have called you my friend for 24 years. Damn, we had some wild times. I will always be grateful for you.”
Osbourne ended the message by extending love to Ransone’s grieving family, writing, “Sending so much love to Jamie, Jack, and Violet.”
GoFundMe Launched to Support His Family
A GoFundMe page was created to lend support to Ransone’s family following his death.
“On Friday, December 19, we lost James Ransone — beloved husband, father, and friend,” the fundraiser’s description reads. “James, who his friends called PJ, was funny, magnetic, brilliant, and endlessly alive. Above all else, he was an extraordinary father.”
The description continues, “His wife, Jamie, known by her friends as Skipper, and their children, Jack and Violet, were the center of his world. They loved him infinitely, and he loved them just as fiercely in return. Their bond was deep, joyful, and unmistakable to anyone who witnessed it.”
“This fund has been created to support Jamie and the children as they navigate life after an unimaginable loss,” the message adds.
“Its purpose is simple: to give Jamie the space to focus fully on Jack and Violet, to care for them, protect their sense of security, and ensure they have a bright future — even without James’s light present in their everyday lives.”
The page concludes, “If you feel moved and are able to contribute, your support will go directly toward helping this family move forward with stability, care, and love.
