Kristin Davis Apologizes for Being ‘Not That Nice’ to ‘SATC’ Co-Star

Kristin Davis has issued an apology to a former “Sex and the City” co-star for her unfriendly behavior on set, revealing how she unintentionally let her character’s feelings influence her real-life interactions.

The 60-year-old actress, who portrayed Charlotte York throughout the iconic HBO comedy series, recently reflected on her treatment of Bridget Moynahan during the show’s original run and its recent “And Just Like That” revival. Moynahan, 54, played Natasha Naginsky, the ex-wife of Mr. Big, who served as a rival to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw.

Internalizing Charlotte’s Perspective

During an appearance with Moynahan on iHeartRadio’s “Are You A Charlotte?” podcast, Davis acknowledged her past behavior and explained the circumstances behind it. “Normally, what I would do for guest star people — which were usually men — I would go and try to proactively be friendly, because it is such a scary situation,” she explained.

However, Davis admitted that Moynahan’s role as the “nemesis” to Carrie caused her to unintentionally blur the lines between fiction and reality. She confessed that she had “internalized Charlotte’s worldview.”

“I don’t think I was that nice to you. I feel really bad about that, Bridget,” Davis stated during the podcast.

Fortunately, Moynahan harbored no resentment about the past treatment. “It’s OK now,” she responded, adding with a laugh: “Don’t worry!”

The “Coyote Ugly” actress did recall feeling puzzled when Davis later became friendly with her at their shared gym. “We would run into each other at the gym all the time,” Moynahan recalled.

Davis explained the shift in her behavior. “By then, we weren’t in our characters anymore, and I could just be a normal person,” she said.

Reflecting on the situation, Davis recognized how “silly” she felt upon realizing her on-screen character had influenced her real-world interactions. “I was less forgiving if you were somebody that I felt like was threatening my friend,” she added.

Fan Reactions Mirrored On-Set Dynamics

Moynahan noted that Davis wasn’t alone in struggling with the storyline dynamics, as many “Sex and the City” fans shared similar strong opinions about the characters involved. “Because they all love Big and Carrie together and somehow I was in the way,” Moynahan explained.

She recalled trying to set the record straight with fans. “I actually said out loud sometimes, ‘No, she was having an affair with my husband. Let’s break this down,'” Moynahan stated.

Both actresses reprised their roles in “And Just Like That”, the sequel series that launched on HBO Max in 2021. Davis returned alongside Parker and Cynthia Nixon, who played Miranda Hobbes. Kim Cattrall, who portrayed Samantha Jones, did not return for the revival due to her public disagreement with Parker, though she did make a guest appearance in the second season.

The revival series came to an unexpected conclusion in August, leaving fans and cast members surprised by the announcement. Davis revealed that neither she nor the rest of the cast anticipated the show’s cancellation after three seasons.

“Our commitment that we had made was a three-year commitment to each other, so we knew that part, but I just assumed that we were going to keep going. That’s how I am,” Davis told Drew Barrymore on her show.

The actress expressed deep sadness about the series coming to an end. “I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever,” she wrote on Instagram.

He showed gratitude to viewers, stating: “It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”
