Lindsey Vonn is taking a moment to reflect on family while continuing her recovery from a serious injury she suffered during the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Olympic skier shared a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Lindy Anne Lund, in a recent Instagram post marking what would have been her birthday.
Alongside a touching video, Vonn opened up about how much she misses her mom, especially during this difficult time. “Happy birthday Mom 🤍🙏🏻 Wish you could have been here this year… I don’t know if you would be more proud now than you were at the 2018 Olympics when I got bronze… But I would really love to know,” she wrote. “I bet you would have lifted me up in the hospital and made everything better.”
The emotional post comes as Vonn continues to recover from injuries sustained during a crash at the Winter Games, making the moment even more meaningful.
A Special Memory That Still Keeps Her Going
In the video, Vonn shared a clip from the 2018 Winter Olympics, where she won a bronze medal and asked her mom how proud she was. Lund’s response was simple but powerful: “I am the most I’ve ever been in my entire life.”
Vonn revealed that she still leans on that memory today. “At least I have this video and when I doubt myself I can always look at it,” she wrote. “I miss you every day and love you more than anything ❤️.”
Lund died in August 2022 after battling ALS, and Vonn has continued to speak about the lasting impact her mother had on her life. Her mom suffered a stroke while giving birth to her, leaving her permanently disabled, but remained a constant source of strength and perspective.
Vonn has previously shared that her mother’s resilience helped shape her mindset, pushing her to keep going through injuries and challenges both on and off the slopes, according to People.
Pushing Forward Through Recovery
The tribute comes as Vonn works her way back after a devastating crash on Feb. 8 during the women’s downhill event. The accident left her with a complex tibia fracture and a broken ankle, requiring multiple surgeries.
Despite the severity of her injuries, Vonn has already begun showing progress. She recently shared a video of herself back in the gym doing pull-ups while still using crutches, writing, “First set of pull ups post surgery… slowly getting there! #progress #onestepatatime.”
Following the crash, Vonn maintained a positive outlook, saying, “While yesterday did not end the way I had hoped… I have no regrets.” She added that simply making it to the starting gate was a victory in itself, per People.
For now, her focus remains on healing. “My focus has been on recovering from my injury and getting back to normal life,” she shared, adding that she will decide her future in skiing on her own terms.
As she continues that journey, Vonn is holding onto the lessons and love her mother gave her, writing, “You always gave me the most amazing perspective and I’m trying to keep that going, especially now.”
