Nancy Guthrie Case Update: Sheriff’s Department Breaks Silence With New Statement After Nearly a Month

Seventy-five days after Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing, the search for answers continues as authorities provide a new update.

On April 16, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department issued its first official statement in weeks, offering insight into the investigation. The development comes as concern and hope remain strong among those closely following the case.

Authorities Confirm FBI Involvement From the Start

In its statement, the department emphasized that federal authorities have been involved since the beginning of the investigation.

The statement shared on X reads: “PCSD has worked with the FBI since the beginning of the Guthrie investigation. This is not new information. The private lab we utilize in Florida continues to share information with the FBI lab & other partner labs across the country. DNA analysis remains ongoing.”

The statement aimed to clarify details about the investigative process, including collaboration with outside labs and agencies.

New Details Emerge About DNA Evidence

The department’s statement follows recent reporting about forensic testing related to the case.

According to journalist Brian Entin, some evidence recovered from Guthrie’s home has been sent for additional analysis.

“Some DNA evidence from Nancy Guthrie’s home has been sent to the FBI’s lab for advanced analysis. I am told the evidence includes hair found in Guthrie’s home. This comes after evidence has already been tested through a Florida lab that the Pima County Sheriff’s Office uses.”

Authorities have not publicly confirmed those details but noted that the investigation and analysis are ongoing.

Genetic genealogist CeCe Moore said the latest development could be significant, especially given advancements in DNA analysis involving hair.

“I’ve been really hoping that maybe they did have some hair to work with because of the more recent advancements in the field, hair absolutely can make the case solvable,” she said in the latest episode of “Brian Entin Investigates.”

Sheriff’s Office Explains Post That Sparked Public Confusion

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department addressed questions about a recent post on X that drew public attention.

“Update: Nancy has been located,” read a message shared late Thursday night.

Officials later clarified that the post referred to a separate case involving Nancy Radakovich, an 82-year-old woman who had been reported missing earlier that day and was subsequently found.

Investigation Continues as Search for Answers Goes On

Prior to this update, the sheriff’s department had not released a public statement since March 24, when it warned about fundraising scams falsely linked to the case.

Officials said at the time that no legitimate GoFundMe campaigns were connected to the investigation.

Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Feb. 1, and the case remains active as investigators continue working to determine what happened.

While the latest update does not provide definitive answers, authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
