UPDATE: Released Man in Nancy Guthrie Case Recounts ‘Terrifying’ Arrest

The man detained for questioning in the search for Nancy Guthrie speaks out following his release.

The subject, who identified himself as “Carlos,” described his experience as “terrifying.”

“I felt like I was being kidnapped,” he told a reporter outside of his home in Rio Rico, Arizona. “They didn’t tell me anything at the beginning.”

The man clarified that he was pulled over at the traffic stop and was detained at the back of the police car.

“I was being detained. I was detained the whole time,” the man added. “That’s what they told me at the back of the car, and they moved me to Pima County Sheriff.”

The released man said law enforcement asked him basic information, including his first and last name, date of birth, and social security number. He was also questioned about his whereabouts.

In another interview, “Carlos” said his wife was the one driving when authorities pulled them over.

“Once I saw they were following me, I pulled over,” he told ABC15 Arizona reporter Ford Hatchett outside of the detention center. “They didn’t even have to put a traffic stop or anything. I got off the car, and they arrested me as soon as I got out of the car.”

He added that authorities didn’t tell him what was going on until detectives arrived.

“They told me I was being detained for kidnapping. I asked them, ‘kidnapping of who?'” he said. “I told them … I might have delivered a package to their house, but I never kidnapped anybody.”

“Carlos” maintained that he never heard of Nancy Guthrie until the day he was arrested.

When asked about the Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s announcement that a person of interest had been detained, he admitted he was “not happy” about becoming involved.

“I’m glad they’re doing their job.” he added. “[But] they’re chasing the wrong person.”

Search for Nancy Guthrie Now on 2nd Week

Deputies detained an individual during a traffic stop about an hour south of Tucson on Tuesday.

The move came hours after the FBI released surveillance images showing an armed, masked man outside Nancy’s residence on the night she disappeared.

The FBI is still offering a $50,000 reward for information about Nancy or her abductor.

Shortly after the release of surveillance images and video, Savannah Guthrie reposted them on her Instagram, saying, “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”
