It might not be quite as good as you may remember it (and the score by Andrew Powell is particularly heinous), but Ladyhawke remains a charming fairy tale about two lovers kept apart by a curse: she, Lady Isabeau (Michelle Pfeiffer), is a hawk by day and he, Captain Navarre (Rutger Hauer), is a wolf by night. Matthew Broderick is the young thief recruited by Navarre to help him kill an evil Bishop (John Wood). Broderick is actually a lot of fun here (a year before he would become really famous with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Pfeiffer is painfully gorgeous (as always) and Hauer, somewhat surprisingly, makes for a great classical hero-type. Put another log on the fire and curl up with this piece of ’80s nostalgia, why don’t you?
