Pete Sampras was recently spotted during a rare public outing in Beverly Hills, giving fans an uncommon glimpse of the retired tennis icon more than two decades after stepping away from professional sports.
The 14-time Grand Slam champion, 54, kept things casual as he stopped by a Starbucks at the Beverly Glen mall on Thursday.

All About the Outing
Sampras was photographed carrying multiple iced drinks in a cardboard tray while making his way back to his car, appearing relaxed during the low-key outing.
Dressed comfortably in blue jeans, blue sneakers and a gray Nike T-shirt, the tennis legend embraced an understated look.
He also sported a noticeably grayer beard and hair than fans may remember from his playing days, while black sunglasses partially concealed his face.
Still, Sampras appeared in good spirits and was seen smiling at passersby before driving off.
Though he remains one of the most successful tennis players in history, Sampras has long preferred a quieter life outside the spotlight.
Sampras Likes to Stay Out of the Spotlight
According to a source familiar with the former athlete, staying out of the celebrity world has always been intentional.
“Pete has always shied away from taking on all the benefits of being a celebrity as he has always considered himself a tennis player and a regular dude,” the source shared with the Daily Mail.
The insider added that Sampras values the anonymity retirement has given him and prefers spending time with family over public appearances.
Describing him as a “homebody,” the source explained that the retired star enjoys a simple routine focused on loved ones.
“He loves being a homebody and only selectively is he seen when he goes out, and he loves it,” the source said. “He loves being able to visit his sisters and brother who he is very close with and just more about being a husband and a father and just taking things day by day.”
Sampras first burst onto the tennis scene in 1988 when he turned professional at just 16 years old. Over the course of his remarkable career, he cemented himself as one of the sport’s all-time greats, winning 14 Grand Slam titles — a record at the time of his retirement.
His achievements include seven Wimbledon championships, five U.S. Open titles and two Australian Open victories.
Sampras also dominated the ATP rankings during the 1990s, finishing as the world’s No. 1 player from 1993 through 1998.
After capturing the 2002 U.S. Open title, Sampras announced his retirement, closing out his career on a high note.
He was later inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2007.
He Released a Statement When His Wife Was Diagnosed With Cancer
In recent years, Sampras has remained largely private, though he shared a deeply personal update in 2023 regarding his wife, actress Bridgette Wilson.
In October of that year, Sampras publicly revealed that Wilson-Sampras had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
In a statement shared through the ATP Tour, he opened up about the difficult chapter their family had been navigating.
“As most have come to know, I am a pretty quiet and private person,” Sampras said at the time. “However, this past year has been an exceptionally challenging time for my family.”
He added that Bridgette had undergone major surgery, chemotherapy and ongoing targeted maintenance therapy following her diagnosis.
