Audrey Hepburn’s second wedding was as understated as it was elegant.

Hepburn’s second wedding, held on January 18, 1969, to Italian psychiatrist Andrea Dotti, was a serene and intimate affair that reflected her preference for understated elegance.

The ceremony took place in the Swiss town of Morges, with only close friends and family in attendance, underscoring Hepburn’s desire for privacy and simplicity.

For this occasion, Hepburn chose a pale pink mini dress designed by her longtime friend and fashion collaborator, Hubert de Givenchy, according to The Knot.

She carried a simple bouquet, opting for a fresh and youthful look that deviated from traditional bridal attire.

This choice was in line with Hepburn’s consistent departure from conventional wedding fashion.

Her first wedding in 1954 to actor Mel Ferrer also featured a short, tea-length dress by Pierre Balmain, a design that was both groundbreaking and reflective of her modern sensibilities.

These fashion-forward decisions contributed to Hepburn’s lasting influence on bridal fashion, inspiring future generations of brides to embrace simplicity and individuality.

Hepburn’s Marriages and Lasting Love

Audrey Hepburn’s journey through love and marriage was marked by both public and private moments.

Her first marriage to Ferrer ended in divorce in 1968.

The couple had one child together, son Sean Hepburn Ferrer.

During her second marriage to Dotti, the two had a son, Luca Dotti. Their marriage lasted until 1982.

After her second divorce, Hepburn found a deep and lasting connection with Dutch actor Robert Wolders.

They met in 1980 and remained partners until her death in 1993.

Though they never married, Hepburn considered their relationship her happiest and would refer to Wolders as her husband, according to PEOPLE.

Wolders spoke with the outlet in August of 2017 and detailed when the two met.

“We were ready for each other,” he told the outlet. “At the time in our lives that we met, we had both made our mistakes.”

Wolders added how important timing is, as he doesn’t know if the relationship would have been the same at an earlier time.

“If chance would have had it that we would have met at an earlier stage, we might not have had the discoveries together that we did have and found those things in life together that were valuable to us at a later point in life when we were both more mature.”
