A Scottish actress who was perhaps known best as the mother of a two-time Academy Award-winning star has sadly passed away at the age of 94.
Phyllida Law was the mother of British actresses Emma Thompson (who, of course, won Oscars for starring in 1992’s “Howards Way” and for writing 1995’s “Sense and Sensibility”) and Sophie Thompson (whose credits include the likes of 1994’s “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and 2001’s “Gosford Park”). Her husband and Emma and Sophie’s father, the actor, scriptwriter and stage director Eric Thompson, passed away in 1982.
Born on July 6, 1932 in Glasgow, Scotland, Law died this month. The cause and exact date of her passing aren’t yet public knowledge.
However, The Guardian says that her personal manager, Jacky Leggo, provided them with a statement that says Law “died supremely peacefully at home, surrounded by all her family.”
Of course, as well as being the mother of famous children, Law had a hugely successful career of her own. It comprised roles on both the big and small screens.
