Robert Carradine, who played many iconic roles throughout his career, has passed away at 71, Deadline reports. The outlet added that the actor took his own life.
Specifically, throughout his career, Carradine is most known for portraying the father in the ‘Lizzie McGuire’ series and film, as well as playing Lewis Skolnik in all four ‘Revenge of the Nerds‘ movies.

“It is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away,” they wrote. “In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon on light to everyone around him. We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder.
“We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness. At this time we ask for the privacy to grieve this unfathomable loss. With gratitude for your understanding and compassion.”
Robert Carradine’s Brother, Keith Carradine, Opens Up About His Brother’s Struggle With Bipolar Disorder
Along with the statement, actor Keith Carradine said that their family wants to speak out about Robert’s struggle with Bipolar Disorder because “there is no shame in it.”
“It is an illness that got the best of him, and I want to celebrate him for his struggle with it, and celebrate his beautiful soul,” Keith added. “He was profoundly gifted, and we will miss him every day. We will take solace in how funny he could be, how wise and utterly accepting and tolerant he was. That’s who my baby brother was.”

“One of my favorite tv dads of all time. I loved seeing him pop up in other things I would explore and watch throughout my childhood/adulthood. RIP Robert,” one person posted.
“As a Gen X-er, Robert Carradine is embedded in my childhood because of the Revenge of the Nerds movies (his amazing Lewis laugh!), and I know he has a whole other layer of significance to those who grew up watching Lizzie McGuire. Another loss that hits hard. RIP,” another person shared.
“The biggest nerd of all, Robert Carradine, has been initiated in the Tri-lambs in the Sky. He will always be Lewis to me, and man, that laugh—one of the most genuinely funny moments of 80s screwball comedies. RIP,” someone wrote.
