“Lizzie McGuire” star Robert Carradine passed away after a battle with bipolar disorder. Now, one week after his tragic death, his body has been released to the Carradine family.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the news after determining that the actor’s cause of death was a suicide by hanging, according to Daily Mail.
Carradine was 71 years old at the time of his February 23 death.
Robert Carradine Went Missing Before His Death
As news began to spread about his tragic death, details about Carradine’s final weeks began to emerge.
Connie Lamothe, director of “The Driver,” a film set to star Carradine, told TMZ she was shocked and heartbroken by the news of his passing. She told the outlet that the beloved actor showed “troubling signs” on set of the film.
According to Lamothe, “she knew there was something wrong when he went MIA from her film prior to the table read this week.”
The outlet reported that the pandemic caused major delays on the set of the film. However, things were finally moving ahead, when in January, Carradine “went radio silent.”
“It is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away,” read a statement from the Carradine family shared with Deadline. “In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon on light to everyone around him. We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder.”
Robert Carradine Will Be Deeply Missed
Carradine — who also starred in such films as “Revenge of the Nerds,” “Escape from L.A.” and “The Big Red One” — came from a multi-generational Hollywood family. In addition to Robert, his brother Christopher John Carradine, vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering, daughter actress Ever Dawn Carradine, half-brother actor David Carradine, and father actor John Carradine, are all famous in their own right.
Following his passing, tributes poured in from all over Hollywood, including former “Lizzie McGuire” costars.
“My heart is broken,” Hallie Todd, who played his onscreen wife, began in her moving Instagram post. “I’m going to miss my sweet buddy so much. He was a generous and loyal friend. He was brave, strong, kind and had a wicked sense of humor. He was a champion for the people he loved and always wanted the best for us.”
Hilary Duff, his TV daughter, added, “This one hurts. It’s really hard to face this reality about an old friend. There was so much warmth in the McGuire family and I always felt so cared for by my on-screen parents. I’ll be forever grateful for that. I’m deeply sad to learn Bobby was suffering. My heart aches for him, his family, and everyone who loved him.”
