“Normal People” star Daisy Edgar-Jones is opening up about a personal health struggle she has quietly faced. The 27-year-old actress revealed that she lives with endometriosis, a chronic and often painful condition. Edgar-Jones spoke about the diagnosis while guiding viewers through her skincare routine in a new YouTube video with Vogue.
Daisy Edgar-Jones Shares Years of Painful Symptoms Before Diagnosis
During the video, the actress looked back on years of difficult symptoms that began well before she understood what was causing them.
As per The Daily Mail, she said in the video, “I have endometriosis, so my hormones are kind of all over the place. I had extremely bad acne for most of my teenage years.
Getty‘When I had terrible acne, it was all I could see when I looked in the mirror. For so long, I had such painful periods and really volatile skin.
“I was diagnosed when I was, I think I was 24. I was definitely relieved to find out why I was going through it.’”
For Edgar-Jones, finally receiving a diagnosis brought a sense of relief after years of not knowing what was behind her symptoms.
She said her teenage years were shaped by persistent acne and severe menstrual pain. At the time, she did not realize those struggles were linked to a larger health condition.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the womb.
The condition can cause inflammation, scar tissue, and serious symptoms, including severe period pain, infertility, and chronic pelvic pain.
For Edgar-Jones, understanding the cause of her symptoms helped make sense of experiences that had long been confusing and painful.
Daisy Edgar-Jones On How She Manages Symptoms
As the years have passed, Edgar-Jones said she has found ways to better support her health and manage the condition.
She explained that focusing on simple routines, including caring for her skin, drinking plenty of water, and being mindful about what she eats, has helped her feel more balanced. She added, “I’ve found over the years skincare that really works for me.
Hulu‘But I also find drinking lots of water and when I eat well – especially when I try and not eat as much dairy – that really helps.’”
Edgar-Jones said making thoughtful choices about her daily routine has helped her better cope with both her skin concerns and hormone-related changes.
Daisy Edgar-Jones Offers Encouragement to Fans Struggling With Acne
HuluLooking back on that period, Edgar-Jones also offered a message of encouragement for people struggling with acne.
She said she understands how overwhelming skin issues can feel, especially when they begin to affect confidence.
She added in the Vogue video: “When I had terrible acne, it was all I could see when I looked in the mirror. But actually, when I look back at photos and videos, it’s funny that so much of the beauty of you is inside, and the confidence that you wear can really help. So I would say to anyone with acne – I know it’s all you can see, but it’s not what everyone else can see.’”
Her words highlight how living with a health condition can shape both physical well-being and personal confidence.
