Denis Villeneuve has been tapped to direct the next James Bond film, with casting being underway for several months. Recently, while speaking to Canada’s “The Morning Show, Oldman shared his thoughts and suggested that Jack Lowden should be the next actor to play the titular role.

Per Variety, he said of his “Slow Horses” costar, “It’s been rumored that [Lowden] is on the shortlist.” Oldman continued, “We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

Of course, Lowden isn’t the only name that has been floated for the next James Bond. Others include Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Harris Dickinson.

Regarding the upcoming movie, it was announced in June 2025 that Villeneuve would direct. Per AP News, he said at the time, “I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor.”

As for a timeline, producer Amy Pascal told Euronews that the actor playing James Bond could be revealed by the end of 2026.

“Slow Horses” isn’t just one of Apple TV’s biggest original series. It also has the distinction of releasing new seasons each year, unlike other hit shows from the streamer such as “Severance.”

According to Deadline, Oldman spoke at the Edinburgh TV Festival, where he received the Global Icon Award. While speaking, he discussed commitment to delivering new seasons without lengthy waits. He said, “You invest in these people, these fictional people, and then the show ends, and you’ve got to wait two and a half years.”

He then called being able to film seasons at a higher pace than other shows a “struggle and a fight,” especially regarding the team behind the series’ ability to “keep on top of the quality.”

After that, he discussed his character from the show, Jackson Jamb, noting that the role “fell from the sky.” Oldman added, “He has no filter, he is direct, he can’t be arsed with the social norms. That’s the fun of playing him.”

“Slow Horses” season six premieres on Apple TV on September 16, with one episode releasing per week. However, as with its other series, Apple releases new episodes the day before their official premiere date at 9:00 PM ET.

Ahead of the premiere of season six, Apple has already renewed the beloved show for a seventh season. It’s also worth noting that the season has already been filmed.
