A “Bachelor in Paradise” couple celebrated a “fake birthday” after a birth certificate mix-up that apparently started at the hospital.
Jess Edwards recently shared the birthday moment for her fiance, Spencer Conley. It came shortly after the pair marked one year together since meeting on “Bachelor in Paradise.”
Edwards, 27 posted a photo of Conley, 33, with his family on her Instagram Story for the occasion.
“Happy fake birthday!” she wrote in the post.
That was not just a cute nickname for the day. Conley’s legal birthday is May 10, which is the date listed on his birth certificate. But Edwards said that is not the birthday his family actually celebrates.

ABCEdwards said Conley was actually born on May 11 at 3 a.m., even though his birth certificate says May 10.
The mix-up apparently happened after a very long labor.
Edwards said Conley’s mom was in labor for around 36 hours before he was born. By the time the paperwork was filled out, the date had already changed overnight.
“I’m sure they had been working over the course of the night shift, all the things, and it’s just an honest mistake,” Edwards said.
She said someone at the hospital wrote down May 10 instead of May 11.
ABC“An honest mess-up that it, obviously, went from the 10th to the 11th at midnight, so whoever filled it out put the wrong date,” Edwards said.
The family did not catch the issue right away. It became a bigger thing as time went on.
“And they didn’t catch it until years later when he was getting his driver’s license and they had to bring his birth certificate,” Edwards said.
At the DMV, Conley apparently said his birthday was May 11. His birth certificate said otherwise. Edwards said the family could have tried to correct the paperwork at some point, but it never happened.
“They could’ve gotten it changed and never did and now the hospital doesn’t even have the records after 20 years or something,” she said.
That left Conley with two birthdays: the one his family knows, plus the one on all of his official documents.
“So, it’s an insane story, but he always celebrates on the 11th, but legally on his ID, on his birth certificate, on his passport, everything says May 10th,” Edwards said.
“So, it’s super interesting and he just gets two days of celebrations now, and so it’s great,” Edwards added.

Edwards was first introduced on Joey Graziadei’s season of “The Bachelor.” Conley appeared on Jenn Tran’s season of “The Bachelorette.” Both were sent home in week 6.
They later returned for Season 10 of “Bachelor in Paradise,” where their connection lasted beyond the show. Edwards and Conley got engaged at the end of the season, making them one of the winning couples.
The pair recently celebrated one year together since meeting on the beach.
