Steve Carell is one of the most beloved comedic actors thanks to his roles in “The Office” and his upcoming series, “The Rooster.” However, his portrayal of Cal Weaver in 2011’s “Crazy, Stupid, Love” also remains one of his most talked-about films. Now, almost 15 years later, he’s sharing what he didn’t love about the movie at first.
Regarding “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” the cast also includes Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Lio Tipton. Duo Glenn Ficarra and John Requa directed the film.
Steve Carell Didn’t Love The Title ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’
Carell recently interviewed with Entertainment Tonight while promoting “The Rooster.” The interviewer noted that the 15th anniversary of “Crazy, Stupid, Love” was approaching, leading the actor to joke, “Why are you doing this to me. And the 87th anniversary of when I first auditioned for the school play.”
After that, he couldn’t believe that it had been almost 15 years since the movie was released in July 2011. Carell then said, “I never liked that title. I do now, but when Dan Fogelman wrote it, he didn’t title it. He didn’t call it anything. It was ‘Untitled Dan Fogelman Project.'”
From there, he discussed the journey that led to the film being titled “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” According to “The Office” star, “Everybody had an idea as to what the title should be, but no one could come up with one, so finally Warner Bros. just said ‘we’re calling it Crazy, Stupid, Love.'”
He then shared his theory about movie titles in general, stating, “But I’m convinced that if it’s good and people like it, people will like the title. Doesn’t even matter what you call it.”
HBO Max’s ‘The Rooster’ Has Solid Reviews
Carell remains busy in Hollywood. Some of his most recent roles include 2025’s “Mountainhead,” 2024’s “The Four Seasons,” and 2023’s “Asteroid City.” Now, he has a new HBO comedy series, “The Rooster,” premiering on March 8.
So far, ahead of the show’s release, it has stellar early reviews from critics, averaging 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. The new series comes from “Ted Lasso” co-creator Bill Lawrence and “Scrubs” writer Matt Tarses. The show centers on a best-selling author who takes a job at a university to form a bond with his daughter.
The season will consist of 10 episodes, and it also stars Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, Lauren Tsai, and more. It’s unclear whether “The Rooster” is intended as a limited series or if there will be additional seasons.
