‘TODAY’ Co-Host Jill Martin Gives Uplifting Post-Surgery Update

Following her emergency surgery on Jan. 9 to repair skin damage from extensive breast cancer radiation therapy, ‘TODAY’ co-host Jill Martin, 49, shared an uplifting update about how her procedure went.

While she does have at least one more surgery to undergo after having already undergone eight, Martin expressed gratitude for the success of right now.

Jill Martin’s Post-Surgery Success

In a reflective post from her Instagram on Jan. 16, the ‘TODAY’ co-host shared an overview of the last week. She used a collection of her notes and entered them into ChatGPT, which then transformed them into a short, honest description.

“I’ve watched Jill go quiet this past week – not disappearing, but doing what she always does: putting her head down and muscling through. She just left her surgeon. The surgery went as well as it possibly could, and once again, her body fought with her,” the note read.

“There’s one more surgery ahead – but this chapter is over. As her friend Stefani says: it’s time to moveon.com. Jill 3.0 is coming in hot – just under construction for a little while longer. Grateful for the prayers, the support system, and a few angels from above who carried her through. Forward. Always,” the update concluded.

Martin joked in her caption about the backstory of why she used ChatGPT to describe what’s going on, writing, “I tell a lot to chatgpt. I call my Al ‘Ace’ and I asked ‘him,’ based on everything I wrote this week, to write a wrapup from his perspective.”

Doctors Give Jill Martin a ‘Good Report’

In her Instagram Story from the same day she updated her supporters, the New York Times bestseller shared vulnerable videos and images of her current state. With tears in her eyes, she tried to stay strong.

“I have not spoken to a lot of friends because I’ve been very sad and trying to just fight through this, but I just got a good report, and everything went as planned, and I’ll get the drains out next week, and I’m on the meds. This chapter is like, [it] feels like it’s coming to an end — so just a happy update,” she said.

When Martin initially shared the news of her emergency surgery, as reported by TODAY.com, she explained how the procedure was meant to be preventive. “It’s preventative and proactive — an emergency only in the sense that if we don’t act now, it could turn into something much bigger,” she said. “It’s important to say this clearly: my cancer is not back.”

Martin was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. She has since undergone eight surgeries. Among those procedures are a double mastectomy and a salpingo-oophorectomy to remove her fallopian tube and ovaries.
