Elle Fanning Gushes About Working With Sister Dakota for the 1st Time

Elle Fanning and sister Dakota Fanning have been in the entertainment industry since they were children. But, for the first time, the actress siblings will be starring together in an upcoming film.

Elle Fanning Gushes About Working With Sister Dakota

Elle, 27, sat down with Kelly Clarkson during the Friday, January 16, episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” where she gushed about working with her older sister for the first time in their careers.

“We really balance each other out in a good way,” the younger Fanning told the “American Idol” alum. “She’s kind of my interpreter. Because sometimes I can get a bit in my head and I have all these big ideas, and she’s like, ‘Alright, let’s bring you down.'”

Elle continued, “It’s the younger sibling thing. She translates for me and we have great, different strengths.”

The “Maleficent” actress was excited to share the news that she and Dakota, 31, are working together “for the first time in a film.”

The Dakota sisters are producing the film version of Kristin Hannah’s World War II novel, “The Nightingale,” through their production company, Lewellen Pictures.

Clarkson was visibly shocked and over the moon to learn the news as she realized she had read the historical fiction.

“Yes, yes! We’re gonna do that! And we’re producing it,” Fanning gushed. “It’s a great book, and it’s really like the ultimate sister story. [We’re] about to go off and do it soon.”

The Fanning Sisters Are Starring in ‘The Nightingale’

Dakota and Elle were first announced as the stars of the upcoming film adaptation in December 2019. They will play onscreen sisters, Isabelle and Vianne, as they take differing route in their struggle to survive as Germany invades France.

“‘The Nightingale’ will be the first time we act on screen together,” the actresses said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “We have played the same character at different ages but have never spoken to each other in front of a camera. For years, we have looked for a film to do with one another and then this gem appeared.”

The statement continued, “As sisters, to share our artistry with each other while bringing such a powerful sister story to life is a dream come true. We are so lucky to have our fearless director, Melanie Laurent, to guide us along on the journey. Let’s do this, sister!!”

The film is set to hit theaters in February 2027.
