‘Wuthering Heights’ Teaser Hints at Electric Chemistry Between Jacob Elordi & Margot Robbie

The first teaser for Emerald Fennell’s 2026 movie adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” dropped on September 3 — and film fans worldwide pointed out the almost tangible spark between its two stars, Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie.

The movie, based on Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel of the same name, will chronicle the passionate, complex, and ultimately tragic relationship between Heathcliff, played by Elordi, and Catherine Earnshaw, played by Robbie, as “Wuthering Heights” is brought to life once more.

The “Wuthering Heights” teaser was posted on the movie’s official X account along with a striking new poster. It features a modern soundtrack in the form of a remix of Charli XCX’s “Everything is Romantic,” which underscores what is clearly a steamy adaptation and aligns with the teaser’s provocative and sensual tone — and the obvious chemistry between Elordi and Robbie didn’t go unnoticed.

Fans Praised Jacob Elordi & Margot Robbie’s ‘Chemistry’ & ‘Perfect Casting’

In “Wuthering Heights,” Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw grow up together after the former, an orphan, is adopted by the latter’s family. In childhood, they develop a profound sibling-like bond that borders on being spiritual, but which rapidly develops into a romantic relationship as they mature into adulthood and movie fans will be hoping this adaptation nails that.

Euphoria” star Elordi, 28, and “Barbie” icon Robbie, 35, appear to capture that amorous spark perfectly in Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” adaptation. Several people who viewed the teaser agreed.

One X user wrote, “I’m seated for the insane cinematography & for Margot Robbie & Jacob Elordi’s chemistry.”

Someone else commented, “Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi definitely have the chemistry to make this intense story work.”

Another user noted, “Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Catherine and Heathcliff are perfect casting choices. Can’t wait to see their chemistry bring this classic to life!”

Fans Also Shared Concerns About the Faithfulness of ‘Wuthering Heights’ to the Novel

As well as the heaps of praise directed at Elordi and Robbie’s on-screen chemistry, the teaser and poster raised other concerns. Most notably, people were concerned about how faithful Fennell’s take on the classic “Wuthering Heights” story might be.

Naturally, X users weren’t shy when it came to voicing those concerns.

One recurring worry was that “Wuthering Heights” will be far more like “50 Shades of Grey” than Brontë intended. One user wrote, “why is this being so romanticised like emily bronte did NOT write fifty shades of grey…. also releasing on valentines day as if its some romcom..?”

Others aired their discontent about the casting choices for Heathcliff and Earnshaw. Specifically, the ethnicity and age of Elordi and Robbie raising questions and frustrations.

Someone asked, “Why is Heathcliff white? The whole point of the story was that bad things keep happening to him because of his appearance due to prejudice and racism.” Another said, “HEATHCLIFF. IS. NOT. WHITE. CATHERINE. IS. NOT. BLONDE. OR. 35.”

There were also concerns regarding Charli XCX’s contemporary soundtrack. Some simply didn’t think her style of music suited the “Wuthering Heights” story. Others believed something more suited to the period setting would have been a better choice.

One user wrote, “I don’t dislike charli but she has to be in like the top 10 worst choices for the soundtrack of WUTHERING HEIGHTS.” Another said, “Why is a charli xcx song playing in a period drama that’s a wuthering heights adaptation.”

While opinion is clearly divided on several aspects of the upcoming “Wuthering Heights” movie — the 16th feature film adaptation of the novel since 1920 — it remains to be seen how fans and critics will view the final product. However, all the evidence currently points to it being contentious, to say the least.

“Wuthering Heights” hits theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2026.
