“Yellowstone” star Mo Brings Plenty shared an update following the tragic passing of his nephew and “1923” actor Cole Brings Plenty.
Cole died at the age of 27 in 2024.
Mo Brings Plenty Opens Up About Nephew’s Passing
Mo Brings Plenty—who is currently starring alongside Luke Grimes in “Yellowstone” spinoff “Marshals”—opened up about his nephew’s passing in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“He was our future,” Mo says of Cole, who was also a member of the Lakota Nations. “He knew our ceremonies. I was teaching him more and more, so was my brother, his father. He was my nephew, but he was like a son to me.”
Mo continued, “And for his murder to go uninvestigated, and for it to be written off as ‘no foul play,’ because they didn’t want to invest anything into it? It’s heartbreaking. Because we’re taxpaying people as well. So for them to not work for us, no different than how they work for anyone else is, is pretty sad.”
Cole, known for his role as Pete Plenty Clouds in the “Yellowstone” prequel series “1923,” was found dead in a wooded area in Johnson County, Kansas, on April 6, 2024, according to Us Weekly.
Lawrence Kansas Police Chief Rich Lockhart said investigators “worked very hard to investigate the incidents and worked very hard to find Cole,” the outlet reported. “None of us could have imagined this outcome.”
No Foul Play Found in Cole Brings Plenty’s Death
After Cole’s death, Lockhart explained that there was a lack of trust in his department from the local Native American community.
“Through meeting with Cole’s family members and members of our Native American community, I clearly see that we are not where we need to be in partnering with a community that is very important to Lawrence’s history and to its current culture,” Us Weekly reported at the time.
Now, nearly two years after Cole was found deceased, his famous uncle explains, “I hope that we continue on to talk about that in our storylines — that there are a lot of families such as mine that are going through this right now, and we still have a lot of unanswered questions. Because I saw his body, I saw the evidence that is there that someone caught him. So for them to say that there was nothing, I can’t believe that. I still can’t.”
Mo added, “For his murder to go uninvestigated, and for it to be written off as ‘no foul play,’ because they didn’t want to invest anything into it? It’s heartbreaking. We’re not letting it go.”
