Tyler Hynes has officially become Hallmark ornament material, but the actor admits getting there was quite the experience.
The “I’ll Be Seeing You” star opened up about creating his own Christmas ornament during Hallmark Channel’s 25th Birthday panel, hosted by PEOPLE’s Breanne L. Heldman.
Hynes Hilariously Recalled the Process
Hynes joked that the process required him to spend an unusual amount of time examining his own appearance.
“I never had to look at myself so much. It was a disturbing experience,” he joked, before adding, “It was lovely.”
The actor explained that he worked with Hallmark Media President Darren Abbott and members of the team responsible for creating the network’s popular ornaments.
Hynes said he enjoyed learning about their process and figuring out how his own personality could be incorporated into the design.
“And it was a really lovely, seamless process of figuring out how their process works and how I can be of service, and find something that might be interesting and maybe useful,” he explained.
Then came the part Hynes found particularly uncomfortable.
“And then we began dissecting my face, which was a horror movie,” he said.
The finished ornament features a close-up of Hynes’ head, complete with his recognizable brown hair and goatee.
A candy cane tucked behind one ear gives the piece a holiday touch, while tiny brass charms represent his beloved dog, Rusty James, and his annual Boot Shot Tradition.
The ornament is already available for presale through Hallmark’s official website and will be released in 2026.
Hynes Has Called the Ornament a ‘Floating Head’
Hynes previously opened up to EntertainmentNow about the honor, revealing that he was surprised when Hallmark approached him about collaborating on the collectible last fall.
He also described the ornament as a “floating head” and said the experience gave him a new appreciation for the artists who create the intricate designs.
The process included several versions before the team landed on the final look. Hynes recalled that some early designs looked drastically different from him.
“One was, like, far too jacked — I looked like a muscular version of myself,” he said. “And then there was another one where we went the other way, and I looked like a worn-out old man.”
Ultimately, Hynes was pleased with the final result.
“I think we landed in a place that looks like it’s in the vicinity — it looks reasonably like me,” he said.
Still, he admitted that analyzing his own face was not something he particularly enjoyed.
“But finding ways to describe my face, and analyze my face in a way that I’d never wanted to do? I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy,” Hynes quipped.
Hynes’ ornament will also hold a special place in Hallmark history. He is only the second Hallmark Channel star to receive an ornament celebrating his likeness. Lacey Chabert became the first in 2025.
For Hynes, the project offered another unexpected milestone in his relationship with Hallmark and its devoted holiday audience.
And while he may not want to dissect his face again anytime soon, fans will soon be able to add his festive likeness to their own Christmas collections.
