‘The Real Housewives of Potomac’ Alum Braves Hurricane Melissa

As Hurricane Melissa pummeled Jamaica earlier this week, one intrepid Bravolebrity battled the storm of the century to give her fans an update. Nneka Ihim, who appeared on season 8 of the hit series, The Real Housewives of Potomac, was vacationing with her family in Montego Bay when the rains hit.

Nneka braced herself against the wind and shared an update for fans via her Instagram that she and her family tried to leave Jamaica in anticipation of the catastrophic incoming weather, but the airports had already been closed out of an abundance of caution. Though the skies had been deceptively perfect leading up to Hurricane Melissa making landfall, no planes were allowed in or out in the days leading up to it.

Thankfully, she noted on her social media that the hotel had been extremely accommodating of the stranded guests. In addition to providing food and lodging, she told her followers, “They’ve done their best to take care of us and accommodate us, and they’re in very good spirits.” She elaborated that the hotel employees played music, games, and pretty much did anything to keep the guests distracted from the treacherous downpour.

To her credit, Nneka is no stranger to stressful conditions. She treated viewers to an intimate look into her challenging fertility journey while on the show. Nneka actually did her first round of IUI on-camera, eventually turning to IVF when those initial efforts failed. And after implanting two embryos via IVF, she and her husband finally welcomed a son, Noah, in May of this year.

Navigating a bumpy vacation probably won’t be the only tough times this family faces, but Nneka’s poise under pressure seems to be her defining trait. On social media, she maintained a calm, cheerful tone while showing off her signature polished style, and fans weighed in with messages of concern. Fellow Housewife, Candiace Dillard Basset, even commented, “Thank God the resort is being accommodating! Praying for your safe return!”

Moving Forward After the Storm

Hurricane Melissa is categorized as one of the most powerful storms in history, and as of Thursday morning, turned its ire towards Bermuda. Though most immediate danger has passed for Jamaica, the devastation is still being surveyed. Rescue and recovery operations are underway, but downed power lines, flooded roads, and leveled buildings are hampering efforts by local authorities.

But still, just as Nneka proved during her tenure on “The Real Housewives of Potomac,” resilience is key.
