Torrey DeVitto, 42, Vulnerably Shares ‘Hard & Disorienting’ Part of Her Journey as a First-Time Mom

Nearly two years after actress Torrey DeVitto welcomed her first child at age 40, she has slowly stepped back into her work, returning to “Chicago Med” for season 11 in 2025 and co-starring with Will Kemp in the new Hallmark rom-com “Toast to Italy.”

DeVitto’s return to the spotlight has not come without its challenges, though. After being very open about her struggles with her IVF journey, difficult pregnancy, and traumatic birth experience, the “Pretty Little Liars” alum opened up in early August 2026 about her struggles with trying to “relearn” her body since becoming a mom in November 2024.

Torrey DeVitto Urges Other New Moms to Give Themselves Grace

DeVitto occasionally shares social media glimpses into her idyllic-looking life with her husband of nearly two years, Jared LaPine, and their little girl, Lyle-Josephine Alina LaPine, whom they’re raising in small-town Michigan, where the actress moved to be closer to family after the pandemic.

In her Instagram Stories on August 3, DeVitto shared a mirror selfie after working out, celebrating that she’d “made it to the gym.” That inspired her to share several additional photos with her little girl, over which she wrote her reflections on the pressure to “bounce back” physically after having a baby.

“While we are on the subject of the gym,” she wrote over a photo of her daughter toddling at a park in overalls and an adorable pink bonnet. “I’d like to make a shout out to all the Moms out there going through their own body journeys right now. I see you and I’m sending so much love and grace to you.”

“There is nothing more beautiful and miraculous than what our bodies go through to bring these little beings into the world,” DeVitto continued. “But it can also be really, really hard and disorienting.”

The “Love’s Greek to Me” star then wrote that she wanted to remind other moms that “Instagram is a facade,” that everyone’s bodies are different, and to “give yourself grace and go at your own pace (easier said than done, I know).”

Torrey DeVitto Says She’s ‘Finally’ Getting Into a Groove Physically

In another Instagram Story with a photo of herself wearing a black one-piece swimsuit while holding her daughter, DeVitto wrote, “I am 20 months in, and I am just finally finding a groove at the gym again. Just finally starting to feel somewhat confident in my own skin again.”

She continued, “I have had to relearn my body, rehone my confidence and define what that means to me, especially with a little girl watching my every move, my every facial expression in the mirror and hearing everything I say to myself, good or bad.”

Six weeks after giving birth, DeVitto wrote in her Instagram Stories about how surprised she was by the physical and mental toll of bringing a little one into the world. She wrote, “To all the moms I’ve always known: I can not believe I didn’t know what I know now.”

“Trying to do it all and push through discomfort while my body is still healing from an extremely traumatic delivery,” she wrote. “Trying to ask for support while not freaking out that anyone who walks through the door will get my baby sick (flu season 🙄). Wondering how I’ll ever blend my old life with this new life.”

Now, looking back at that time, DeVitto admitted in her latest Instagram Stories, “My body felt foreign to me. I am finally learning and leaning into the joy of re-meeting myself at this new stage and place.”

“I feel like we don’t give ourselves, as moms, as women, the space to be proud of all we do and achieve and GROW. And allow ourselves the time and space to heal and no have to ‘bounce back’ to what society thinks we should be.”

DeVitto concluded, “This is your reminder and permission to be proud of yourself and flow with ease at your own pace in your own personal journey! Shut out the noise and have the experience of life. Messy and all.”
