‘Gogglebox’ Icon Would Love to do ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ — But There’s a Catch

A ‘Gogglebox’ legend has suggested she’d jump at the chance to be a contestant on ‘Strictly Come Dancing‘ — but there’s a valid reason why she might not be allowed to do so.

Scarlett Moffatt, 34, shot to fame on the Channel 4 show in which families and groups of friends around the United Kingdom are filmed for their observations about the previous week’s television from the comfort of their own home. She appeared on series 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 between 2014 and 2016.

Moffatt’s humorous and witty reactions to the shows she was tasked with watching made her a fan-favorite among ‘Gogglebox’ viewers. It resulted in her expanding her television career to become a household name for many other reasons.

Moffatt’s fame exploded immediately after she departed ‘Gogglebox.’ She entered the 2016 edition of reality show ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ and was crowned “Queen of the Jungle” on December 4. In winning the show, she beat the likes of former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Ola Jordan, comedian Joel Dommett, and actor Larry Lamb to the title.

Since then, she’s appeared on the likes of panel shows ‘Virtually Famous’ and ‘CelebAbility’ as a team captain, hosted the dating show ‘Streetmate,’ presented backstage at the 22nd National Television Awards in 2017, co-presented ‘Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway,’ and appeared as a contestant on celebrity editions of quiz shows like ‘Catchphrase,’ ‘The Chase,’ and ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’

Now, Moffatt has said she’d relish the opportunity to appear as a participant on another popular British television series. But there’s a catch.

Speaking exclusively to The Daily Star, Moffatt told the British tabloid, “I don’t know if they would let me, but I would love to do Strictly. I feel like I’ve tried to plead my case on why I would be brilliant on Strictly. I’ve been like, ‘Okay guys, I’m here!'”

However, there’s a potential issue that could put a stop to any hopes of Moffatt’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ dream coming true. The ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ champion explained that, although she’s a long way from being a professional, ballroom dancing has always been a hobby. It’s a fact that could unfortunately work against her.

Moffatt said, “What I love as a viewer is watching people go on a journey. And my journey wouldn’t be as fun to watch either. Now, I’m not saying I’m like Shirley [Ballas], she’s unbelievable, but I can dance a bit.”

She’s hoping to take advantage of a charity loophole, though. Every Christmas Day, a one-off episode of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ airs, with a new roster of participants. It’s not taken quite as seriously as the main show.

The ‘Gogglebox’ star said, “I’d love to do the charity one at Christmas. They’ve already filmed this year’s, but I can start pleading the case for next year and writing those letters to commission. That would be wonderful, even if I was just an extra in the background. I could just be there purely for morale. Let’s get this manifested!”

It would be great to see it happen, so let’s all start wishing Moffatt’s dream into reality.
