Jeff Probst Suggests Fans Could Help Design ‘Survivor’ Challenges

Long-time “Survivor” host Jeff Probst has said that he likes the idea of having fans contribute to the design process for challenges on the hit reality television series. Speaking on his podcast, the showrunner confirmed that it was an idea that appealed to him and it would be useful to have input directly from viewers — although he isn’t certain how they could make the process possible.

Jeff Probst Wants Fan Input for ‘Survivor’ Challenges

On the latest episode of his “On Fire With Jeff Probst,” the host was joined by Jay Wolff and Jeremy Collins. The conversation turned to how the creatives behind “Survivor” work to update challenges, introduce new elements, and design brand new objectives for the players to compete in.

After discussing how the process works currently, Probst then moved on to explain how he would like to do things in the future so that fans of the series could contribute directly. He revealed his idea, saying, “What I would love to do is be able to create an app where you put all of the elements from all of our challenges into the app, and let fans go in and say, ‘Have you thought of this?’”

“Because I know there are fans right now that would find a new way to create a new challenge. That’s where I’d like Survivor to go. I’d like to get more fan involvement about creating the design of the game. Because anybody can do it; there’s no secret to it. I’d love to make it more inclusive, and maybe that’s something we can pull off in the future.”

Probst was obviously careful not to commit to anything on the podcast and did say that it was something that the team behind “Survivor” might look into in the future. However, the idea of viewers being able to directly influence the design of challenges in the show is one that will certainly get many people excited.

Jeff Probst Doesn’t Think Latest Challenge Twist Worked

The idea of allowing fans to aid the process came about after Probst told his co-hosts that he didn’t think the latest immunity challenge twist worked. Although he was open to the idea of changing challenges to keep them fresh, he thought the modifications made to the classic challenge where players have to spell out the word “immunity” with blocks was completely successful.

“Even though we have classic challenges, if you can find a way to reinvent them that works, that’s great,” says Probst.“We have failed a couple of times in that we have messed with a great challenge, and I don’t think it was better for the change. But the only way you know that is by trying it.”
