‘The View’ Celebrates a Major Moment for Women’s Sports With WNBA Star Breanna Stewart

The women of “The View” welcomed New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart to the table to discuss a historic moment in women’s sports.

Stewart, also known as “Stewie” to WNBA fans, stopped by to break down the significance of the WNBA Board ratifying the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), a move that could reshape player pay, benefits, and the future of the league.

Discover what this historic moment means to the WNBA star and the players across the league.

Whoopi Goldberg Congratulates Breanna Stewart on Historic WNBA Milestone

After being welcomed to the table, Whoopi Goldberg immediately congratulated Breanna Stewart, saying, “Cheers to you and the players and everyone on the WNBA side who worked together on this collective bargaining agreement.”

The co-host then asked Stewart to help them break down what this new CBA would mean for players. In response, Stewart noted that almost everything about how the WNBA was run was broken before this new CBA was put into place.

Stewart explained that because of the new CBA, “WNBA salaries are now much higher than they’ve ever been. The reasoning is that the players now get twenty percent of the revenue that comes into the WNBA.”

The WNBA star went on to say, “We’ve never had minimum standards in writing, and now we do.” This means that the base salary for every WNBA player will be higher than it has ever been in the league’s 30-year history. The numbers reflect just how significant the change is.

Here’s How Much WNBA Salaries Are Increasing Under the New CBA

The financial impact of the new CBA is significant. For reference, the salary cap per WNBA team was only $1.5 million in 2025, with the minimum player salary set at just $66,079. Through this new CBA, the salary cap per team soars to $7 million.

Salaries are also set up differently, with the minimum player salary averaging between $270,000 and $300,000 based on the number of years the player has been in the league. This bumps up the average WNBA salary to $583,000 starting in the 2026 season.

The scale of the pay increase marks one of the most significant financial shifts in women’s sports history. For the first time, many players will be able to earn a full-time living without relying on overseas contracts.

Breanna Stewart Celebrates Her Appearance on ‘The View’

After earning a seat at the table, the WNBA star took to social media to celebrate her appearance on “The View.” The 31-year-old captioned her Instagram post, “Hiiii Grandma, I was on The View today.”

Before wrapping up her appearance, Stewart also made sure to hook up the hosts with Liberty gear, making sure they’d be rooting for the ‘right’ team in the upcoming WNBA season, which tips off on May 8, 2026.

Along with blazing trails in the WNBA as the vice president of the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA), Stewart co-founded Unrivaled with fellow WNBA star Napheesa Collier.

Historic in its own right, Unrivaled is a 3-on-3 basketball league that kicked off its inaugural season in 2025. The league offers players a minimum six-figure salary, setting a new benchmark for pay in U.S. women’s professional basketball.

As if she weren’t busy enough, Stewart is also a mother. When she’s not on the basketball court or in the boardroom, Stewart can be found with her wife, Marta, and the couple’s two children: Ruby and Theo.
