‘The Voice’ Coaches Discuss Alumni Vote Twist Ahead of Tonight’s Season 29 Finale Episode [Video]

The Season 29 finale of “The Voice” is officially here; and it seems like the coaches are just as invested (and entertained) as the fans. In a recent Instagram post from the show’s official account, coaches John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, and Adam Levine reacted to one of the biggest twists of the season.

The caption laid it out simply: “Voice Alumni will be casting their votes to help decide the next winner of The Voice.”

Yep, you read that right. Former contestants (a.k.a. people who’ve actually lived through the pressure) are casting votes in the finale. And honestly? The coaches seem very here for it. But the real magic was in the back-and-forth between the trio, which felt equal parts thoughtful and playful.

The Coaches Are Loving the Voting Twist

Legend kicked things off with a pretty relatable take: “I am so enjoying this. We just get to sit here and watch them sing. We don’t have to even decide who goes to the next round.

Let’s be real; that’s probably a nice break after an entire season of tough moments.

Clarkson quickly jumped in with, “I love peers voting,” which, honestly, feels like the heart of this whole twist. There’s something about artists judging artists that just hits differently.

Levine backed that up, saying, “I absolutely love that. I think that’s genius because they know what it’s up, they know what it takes, and they’re in the room, which is hugely important.

And he’s not wrong. These alumni know exactly what it feels like to stand on that stage, waiting for their fate to be decided. It seems like that kind of perspective could bring a whole new level of fairness (and maybe even empathy) to the finale.

Legend echoed that sentiment, adding, “I truly believe our alumni are going to be really fair, and they’re going to do what’s right for the music and right for the artist…”

Clarkson didn’t miss a beat, chiming in with, “Because they’ve been in their shoes,” as Legend continued, “And pick the best person. Hopefully we’ll get some really good finalists.”

Kelly Clarkson Brings the Sass (Of Course)

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper coach moment without a little playful shade.

Clarkson couldn’t resist pointing out the obvious advantage she has this time around: “It must be really hard for you guys because only one of your people moved through,” referring to her All-Star Competition win that secured her two finalists.

Levine fired back with, “You don’t understand our plight,” while Legend backed him up with, “Yeah. You wouldn’t know.”

Clarkson’s response? A perfectly timed, “I wouldn’t know.” Honestly, the banter alone deserves its own spin-off.

Levine wrapped things up with a simple, “Let the chips fall as they may,” and Legend agreed, adding, “That’s right. All right. We got a few more performances.” And just like that, it was back to the music.

‘The Voice’ Season 29: Finale Night Is Here

  1. I enjoyed this method of determining the winner. In the past, the winner actually was determined by the number of votes supporters were able to find to vote for their choice…maybe hadn’t even watched the show. I believe the audience got it right even though all four finalists were exceptional!! I hope we get to see the remaining artists make it big…they were definitely talented.
