Niall Horan is getting candid about the physical toll his body has taken over the years — and his fears for what lies ahead.
During a recent appearance on “The Zach Sang Show,” the former One Direction star, 32, revealed that ongoing joint issues are beginning to worsen, raising concerns about his long-term health.
Horan Has Already Had a Long Journey
Horan, who underwent reconstructive knee surgery back in 2014, admitted that the damage hasn’t fully subsided — and may be spreading.
“My knees are [explicative]. The hips are going now too,” he said bluntly, explaining that he believes genetics may be playing a major role in his condition.
The former “Voice” coach pointed to a family history of joint problems, noting that his father recently underwent both knee and hip replacements, while other relatives have faced similar procedures.
Despite the significant age gap, the singer suggested those issues may have been inevitable for him.
“I know, but it was clearly in there,” he said, referencing his father’s surgeries. “My uncle had two knees done. Like, it’s a thing.”
The admission paints a sobering picture for the chart-topping artist, who is still relatively young but already grappling with chronic discomfort and the possibility of future surgeries, including a potential hip replacement.
Still, Horan isn’t ignoring his health.
Niall Cares About His Health
Despite the challenges, Horan has made wellness a priority in recent years.
The singer revealed that one of his biggest tools for staying on track is the fitness and recovery tracker Whoop — so much so that he’s invested in the company.
“What I like about Whoop is it keeps me accountable,” Horan shared during a January podcast with the app.
He explained that during the pandemic, he and his friends turned the data-driven device into a source of friendly competition, pushing each other to stay active.
That competitive edge continues to motivate him today, even in small ways.
“I find it good to keep yourself competitive with yourself,” he said, adding that sometimes it’s as simple as taking an extra walk to hit his goals.
Beyond his health, Horan also touched on his personal life during his recent interviewing “The Zach Sang Show”, revealing that his girlfriend, Amelia Woolley, served as inspiration for several songs on his upcoming album Dinner Party.
According to Horan, the creative process wasn’t without emotion.
“She did a lot of crying,” he admitted.
While he continues to navigate both physical setbacks and creative highs, Horan’s honesty offers a rare glimpse into his life.
