Riley Green Reveals the Hilarious High School Fail That Still Haunts Him Today

Before Riley Green takes a seat as a coach on Season 30 of “The Voice,” the country music star is proving that even chart-topping singers still cringe over their most embarrassing high school moments. During a hilarious new interview, Green admitted a failed dunk from his teenage basketball days still “haunts” him, and the story somehow only gets worse from there.

A Slam Dunk Gone Wrong

While appearing on the “Are Y’all Okay Show,” Riley was asked what keeps him up at night. The answer may surprise you.

Green said, “I missed a dunk when I was playing basketball. I was in 10th grade, against Alexandria High School. I don’t know, I tried to bring it back too far, and I missed it.”

The missed dunk seemed to follow him around. He added, “I actually took a girl to prom, and she said, ‘Aren’t you the guy that missed that dunk?’”

It was in high school, which we know are hard times for all teens. It seems like a moment Riley never thought he would recover from, as he joked, “Honestly, I’m surprised I have a career after that moment.”

He did move past that moment and has a successful country music career, so what would he say to that girl now? Riley said, “I want to invite her to Alexandria High School one day. Y’all bring the cameras, and I’m gonna dunk.”

Shifting from that topic, the interviewer asked what one thing Riley wished he were good at? She joked that she felt like she knew the answer, which she said was dunking. Riley jokingly said, “Hey, I never said I wasn’t good at dunking, I said I missed one.”

Revoking Driver’s Licenses

During the clip, Riley voiced his strong opinion on driver’s licenses. When asked what’s one thing he wishes he could normalize, he said, “Revoking of driver’s licenses if you drive too slow in the left lane…take their license. Take it away.”

They dove a little deeper into the topic, with the interviewer asking if, after a certain age, your driver’s license should be taken away?

Green replied, “I don’t have anything against old people driving. Let’s just say after a certain age, you have to go to Talladega Superspeedway and you have to drive over a certain speed limit around the track one time. And if you’re willing to drive fast enough, you can keep your license. If you’re not, you got to walk.”

The Final Verdict

They also dove into Riley’s favorite country song, as she asked which song he wished he could take credit for. It happens to be “Here in the Real World” by Alan Jackson.

What is it about that song for Riley? He said, “As a songwriter, that’s like the perfect country song for me. Everything about it. I just love that song.”

In the end, the guests on this show are deemed to be not okay or okay. What is Riley? The final verdict was not okay, which he said, “I’ve been not okay long enough now, I guess I can ride it out.” She joked, “It makes for really good songs.”

You can see Riley Green on “The Voice” Season 30 this fall on NBC.
