Sebastian Stan is one of Marvel’s most talented actors, and one of the few remaining figures from Marvel’s “Infinity Saga.” The beloved actor made his debut in “Captain America: The First Avenger,” but wouldn’t cement his superhero stardom until his appearances in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War.” However, after months of speculation, the Winter Soldier finally revealed that he’s ready to jump ship.
Stan revealed that he is playing Harvey Dent, in “The Batman: Part 2,” while speaking to the French news publication Le Journal du Dimanche. The actor didn’t reveal much, except to confirm his role in the highly anticipated superhero film. A great deal of speculation surrounds this recent testimony, but a lot will be revealed once the film’s first trailer is released.
Two Face Is a Key Character in Batman’s Mythos
Harvey Dent, and his villainous counterpart, is one of the most important figures within the Batman mythos. Dent represents a very real path that Batman might take during his war on crime. The district attorney begins his story by attempting to bring each of Gotham’s illicit criminals to justice. Sadly, one of Batman’s only allies quickly runs into disastrous complications.
In most renditions of the tale, Harvey Dent suffers a traumatic attack causing him to unleash second more violent personality. This personality eventually manifests as the villain “Two Face” and becomes one of Batman’s most intense enemies. At this point, Stan’s version of the character could go either way.
The plot could follow Pattinson’s Batman as he attempts to collaborate with Stan’s Harvey Dent, until the latter’s tragic downfall. The film could just as easily depict Stan deep into the Two Face personal, but this idea is much more unlikely. Dent wasn’t in the first movie, so it wouldn’t make sense to jump right into his villainous tirade, even if there is a timeskip between the two films. Nevertheless, director Matt Reeve’s is probably desperate to please fans after continuous delays, so anything is on the table.
While DC had a really good showing with 2025’s “Superman,” fans are already accusing the studio of losing momentum. “Supergirl” failed to meet box office expectations and fans’ have begun to chastise James Gunn for his choice in subject matter. Instead of focusing on the franchise’s heavy hitters, Gunn has focused on world-building instead of character buidling.
Stan Joins an Exclusive List of Actors Who Starred in Both DC and Marvel Projects
In joining the DC universe, Stan becomes one of the few actors who have participated in both DC and Marvel. The companies have been at odds since the 60s, forming an intense rivalry which persists to this day. The companies occasionally collaborate, but they are most often at odds, or their fans are at the very least.
GettyBoth DC and Marvel are extremely successful, and although rumored, there is no official confirmation there are processes preventing actors from competing in both. That said, Stan’s time as The Winter Solider is likely coming to a close. Stan has portrayed the popular hero for more than a decade, and is likely ready to move on from the beloved role. That said, there’s no telling what Marvel has planned for their universe post “Avengers: Doomsday.”
Ultimately, Stan’s confirmation affirms rumors which fans had been spreading for months. The actor didn’t reveal anything about the project other than his role, but that alone has fans incredibly excited. They might have to wait almost two years for the film’s release, but with this star-studded cast, it is likely worth the wait.
