Weeks after Snoop Dogg apologized for his controversial comments about the LGBTQ+ representation in Pixar’s 2022 movie “Lightyear,” the legendary rapper and coach on “The Voice” is now using his voice to spread the message that “love is love.”
On October 16, 2025, GLAAD announced a new partnership with Snoop in honor of Spirit Day, the organization’s annual anti-bullying campaign aimed at boosting support for queer youth. According to Billboard, Snoop has partnered with “The Voice” season 26 finalist Jeremy Beloate for a new song called “Love Is Love,” featured in the rapper’s animated YouTube kids’ show, “Doggyland.”
In a video discussion between Snoop and Beloate, who has said he was bullied as a queer kid growing up in Tennessee, Snoop declared, “It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is.”
Snoop Dogg Says He Realized He Can Teach Kids to Love One Another Through His Show & Music
During the August 20 episode of the “It’s Giving” podcast, Snoop complained that the kids’ movie “Lightyear” included a scene with a lesbian couple and their child, noting that he didn’t know how to explain their relationship to his curious grandkids and that it made him “scared to go to the movies.”
After a great deal of public pushback, Snoop wrote in the comment section of a post about his remarks, “I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons. all my gay friends no what’s up they been calling me with love 💗 my bad for not knowing the answers for a 6 yr old 😳teach me how to learn I’m not perfect 🙌🏿🙏🏾🐾”
Many in the LGTBQ+ community urged Snoop to help normalize rather than ostracize different kinds of families. The 16-time Grammy winner saw an opportunity to turn his misstep around, working with Beloate on “Love Is Love.”
He noted during their October 16 video discussion, created in partnership with GLAAD, “I have the opportunity to teach the kids through my music and through ‘Doggyland.'”
The new animated music video features families of all kinds as a new “Doggyland” character, Zippy, who sings, “Our parents are different, no two are the same, but the one thing that’s for certain is the love won’t change.”
Snoop Dogg Says ‘Love is the Key,’ No Matter What a Family Looks Like
GLAAD, Snoop, and Beloate released a 36-minute video on social media of the two artists discussing Beloate’s career since “The Voice,” what they have in common, and the importance of representing all kinds of families and relationships in the media.
As they began talking about “Love Is Love,” Beloate told Snoop that when he first moved to New York three years ago, he made ends meet by nannying for a gay couple. It was an eye-opening and heart-expanding experience for him, he said, because he’d never known a gay family. Beloate said he wrote a letter to the couple, letting them know they’d helped him realize that one day he could be a dad, too.
Snoop responded, “It makes me want to speak to the fact that it’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be able to be shown love, to be taught what love is because hate is taught and so is love. And I think that being able to have parents of all walks of life, whether it’s two fathers, two mothers, whatever it is, love is the key.”
“And I think these kids are being loved by these great parents that are, you know, showing them an example of what family is,” Snoop continued. “So, I want to give a shout out to all of the parents out there for doing such a great job with these kids.”
Snoop Dogg Says He Considers Jeremy Beloate Part of His Family
Since the December 2024 finale of season 26, Beloate’s had an amazing trajectory. Originally on Michael Buble’s team, Snoop later stole him and Beloate said he felt part of the family from the first moment.
“I already was in love with him as a fan,” Snoop recalled during their video discussion. “But when I brought him in as a family member, it just it was magic. I’ve always been like that. When my spirit and somebody else’s spirits match, we build a bond, a brotherhood, a sisterhood or whatever it is. And that’s what we built.”
Beloate has since landed the lead role in Todrick Hall’s new musical, which is now in rehearsals in London. He was also signed to Snoop’s Death Row Records in September and just released his first single, “Show Me (How Fast You Can Break My Heart).”
