‘The Voice’: Adam Levine Shares Rare, Candid Coach Snapshot

Season 29 of “The Voice,” billed as the Battle of Champions, brought together a trio of winning coaches, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend, as mentors to the next generation of singing superstars. In a rare backstage snap, Levine gave fans a sneak peek at the coaches’ off-camera, a side of the show fans don’t often see.

In a new Instagram post, Levine shared a black-and-white image of himself, Clarkson, and Legend as they readied to go on stage for the series’ premiere episode. The trio of winning coaches was seen from behind as they walked from the backstage area, past audience seating, to the stage, giving fans a different look at what life is like from their point of view.

The intimate snap offered a rare glimpse of the winning coaching trio. Behind-the-scenes of this high-stakes season, the image showed that there is plenty of energy backstage before the competition even begins.

“The Voice” Battle of Champions brings together Clarkson, Legend, and Levine as the series’ only panel comprised entirely of winning coaches, per a press release. Along with this new format, the show is tweaking even more elements of the long-running NBC competition series to make each episode more exciting than ever for viewers.

What Will Change During ‘The Voice’ Season 29?

During the early stages of “The Voice” competitions, performers enter the stage, and all the coaches have their backs to them, deciding on whether or not they want them on their team by their voice alone. However, during Season 29, the coaches will also compete against one another in what the show calls a “Triple Turn Competition.”

If a performer gets all three coaches to turn for them, the coach who wins the most three-chair turns gains a special advantage in the next round.

This special advantage leads to another season tweak called a “Super Steal.” A coach can only use this element of the competition one time a season, and it’s a moment when they can block any other coach’s attempt to steal a performer, but it can only be used by the winner of the “Triple Turn Competition.”

There’s also an “In-Season All-Star Competition” this season, which reunites coaches with fan-favorite artists from previous competitions. These performers battle head-to-head in sing-offs, with former coach CeeLo Green overseeing this exciting twist.

How Many Times Have Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend Won ‘The Voice?’

Returning “The Voice” coaches Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend have an impressive amount of wins, totaling between them.

John Legend has only won as a coach one time, during Season 16 with singer Maelyn Jarmon. He has appeared on the series for 11 seasons thus far.

Kelly Clarkson has won four times as a coach. Her first win was during Season 14 with Brynn Cartelli, followed by Season 15 with Chevel Shepherd, in Season 17 with Jake Hoot, and in Season 21 with Girl Named Tom. Thus far, she has appeared on 10 seasons of the NBC series.

Adam Levine won a trio of seasons with Javier Colon in Season 1, Tessanne Chin in Season 5, and Jordan Smith in Season 9. He comes in second to Blake Shelton as the coach who has been on the series the longest, with 18 seasons under his belt.

“The Voice” season 29 airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on NBC. New episodes steam the next day on Peacock.
