Blake Shelton is talented, extremely funny, and he was a great coach on “The Voice,” but what some fans may not know is that he also holds the title of People’s Sexiest Man Alive, which he earned in 2017. Host Carson Daly has a thing or two to say about that, and in a recent interview, he joked about how Shelton got the title.

Getty“Not sure how that happened,” Daly told People of Shelton’s title at an event for “The Voice: Battle of Champions” Karaoke Night on Thursday, February 19. “Gwen [Stefani] must’ve been the only one voting that year.” Shelton and Stefani have been in a relationship since November 2015 and got married in 2021.
When Shelton earned his Sexiest Man Alive title, he was a coach on “The Voice,” a role he held from Season 1 in 2011 until Season 23 in 2023. Fellow coaches Adam Levine and John Legend have also been named People’s Sexiest Man Alive. Levine took the title in 2013 and Legend in 2019. Carson addressed all three coaches, saying, “They’re humble guys… No problems there. They’re well-behaved.”

When Shelton was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive, he told People that his first thoughts were, “Y’all must be running out of people. Like, Wow, we’re down to somebody who is somewhat symmetrical.” He did thank Stefani at the time for helping him accept the title and be proud of it. “She goes, ‘Listen to me, you’re going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don’t take this gift and just live in the moment.”
Shelton joked about how he was going to flaunt it in Levine’s face. The pair were beloved for their playful banter on the show and for the strong friendship they formed. “I can’t wait to shove this up Adam’s (expletive),” Shelton said. “As proud as I am and honored that you guys asked me, that’s really the only thing I care about.”
At the time, “The Voice” also commented on having two coaches who were People’s Sexiest Man Alive. In a post on X, the official account wrote, “OW! OW! Welcome to @people’s #SexiestManAlive club, @blakeshelton. You’ve made @adamlevine proud. #VoicePlayoffs.” The message is accompanied by a video of Shelton leading Levine to a billboard featuring his People cover and title, which declares him the Sexiest Man Alive.
