The Dermatologist Credits Fast Action to Saving Her Life
After the stroke, Dr. Sandra Lee bravely shared her story with PEOPLE. She noted that as a surgeon, she always wanted to come from a place of strength. But on the other side of the coin, she knew how important it was to share her story.
On November 20, 2025, Dr. Lee was in the middle of filming for her show when she suddenly didn’t feel quite right.
“I had what I thought was a hot flash. I got super sweaty and didn’t feel like myself,” the dermatologist shared. After filming concluded, she visited her parents’ home, conveniently located near her practice.
Dr. Lee didn’t feel any better after settling in for the night, describing feeling “restless.”
“In one leg I kept feeling shooting pains,” she continued, noting that she was unable to sleep. The TLC star then went downstairs and noticed she was having trouble making it down the steps.
As morning arrived, Dr. Lee knew something was very wrong. Her father is also a dermatologist and encouraged her to seek prompt medical care. At the emergency room, they discovered Dr. Lee suffered an ischemic stroke.
“It was just a shock,” the TLC star recalled. “As a physician I couldn’t deny that I had slurred speech, that I was having weakness on one side, but I was like, ‘Well, this is a dream, right?’ What essentially happened, is I had a part of my brain that died.”
In an interview with Tamron Hall, Dr. Lee described the situation and encouraged others to act quickly if they notice similar symptoms.
New episodes of “Dr. Pimple Popper: Breaking Out” air at 9 p.m. Monday nights on Lifetime.
