TLC Pulls Duggar Family Show From Streaming Services Amid Joseph Duggar News

Amid the current situation involving Joseph Duggar, TLC has pulled one of his reality shows from multiple streaming services.

The network quietly pulled all seasons of “Counting On” without forewarning subscribers or making a formal announcement. The series was a spinoff of “19 Kids and Counting” and continued without Josh Duggar.

TLC Drops ‘Counting On’ From Streaming Services

“Counting On” has been removed from Discovery+ and HBO Max. However, some Canadian and UK subscribers reported that the series is still available to watch in their respective locations, according to Us Weekly.

The sequel series, centered on the Duggar family, ran for 11 seasons on TLC from 2015 to 2020. Joseph first became famous when he and his 16 siblings starred on the short-lived TLC series, “17 Kids and Counting.”

That was the original title for the reality series that followed Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their ever-growing family. The show changed its name to “19 Kids and Counting” as the couple had more children.

“Counting On” became the sequel series that allowed the family to continue their story without Josh Duggar. At the time, TLC pulled all seasons of “19 Kids and Counting” from major streaming platforms.

The network claimed the reason was due to the show’s cancellation. The series is available for purchase by episode or by season on Amazon, Google Play, and Fandango at Home.

‘Counting On’ Was Originally Titled ‘Jill & Jessa: Counting On’

“Counting On” was originally marketed as “Jill & Jessa: Counting On.” It first premiered as a series of three specials in December 2015.

The episodes focused mainly on Jill Duggar Dillard and Jessa Seewald and their respective marriages. Both sisters were starting families at the same time, and the family wanted to capture that.

The purpose of the original title was to separate the spinoff from “19 Kids & Counting,” while maintaining the Duggar family name. Jim Bob and Michelle, as well as Jill and Jessa’s other siblings, including Joseph, eventually appeared on the series.

It was then retooled as “Counting On” when TLC picked up the show for a full season in March 2016. This came after the immediate cancellation of “19 Kids and Counting.”

Eventually, the show moved on from Jill and Jessa’s storylines and featured the entire family, as in the original reality series. “Counting On” became a hit show for the network. The first episode amassed over 2.2 million viewers.

News of the show’s cancellation broke on June 29, 2021, as per PEOPLE. The network confirmed it would no longer cover the Duggars’ story, as the family sought to regain their privacy.
