It’s no secret that Taylor Sheridan has built a TV empire, and it all started with the massively successful “Yellowstone.”
Over the past few years, there have been multiple spinoffs — some that have made it to the air, others that remain in the development stage.
One of these spinoffs, however, continues to spawn questions: “6666,” which was announced more than five years ago but has yet to see the light of day.
Finally, Sheridan is coming forward with information about what’s actually going on with “6666.”
‘6666’ is Set at the Iconic Four Sixes Ranch
“Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666,” read the synopsis of the spinoff when it was first announced back in 2021.
“Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 has inspired a new scripted series where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing,” the synopsis continued. “The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world-class cowboys are born and made.”
Rumors About the Cast
ParamountIn that initial announcement about “6666,” there was no information about casting.
However, the conclusion of the fourth season of “Yellowstone” found ranch hand and ex-criminal Jimmy Hurdstrom (Jefferson White) sent to the Four Sixes for training. When he decided to stay there, this led fans to speculate the storyline was the setup for “6666,” with Ryan Bingham (ranch hand Walker) also rumored to join White in the new series.
A New Update from Taylor Sheridan
During a recent appearance on the “Rodeo Time” podcast, Sheridan offered a long-awaited update on “6666.”
Sadly, he revealed that the spinoff won’t be moving forward.
“There’s never going to be one; I would never fictionalize that ranch,” he said, via Page Six. “People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that.”
As he explained, as owner of the actual Four Sixes, the working ranch is serious business to him — far more serious than any TV show.
“So now I’m trivializing and fictionalizing something where real people work, and they raise their families there, and I could never do that to them. I could never do that to the cowboys that dedicated themselves, and everybody that works on that ranch,” Sheridan said.
“I’m very protective of the Sixes, and it’s a big responsibility to be the person who has to protect that ranch, so I have to be very, very careful with it,” he added.
Taylor Sheridan Owns the Real-Life Four Sixes Ranch
The Four Sixes Ranch was founded in 1870 by oilman and rancher Samuel Burnett. Spread across more than 256,000 acres spanning four Texas counties, the ranch was passed down to generation after generation until ultimately winding up under the ownership of Burnett’s descendent Anne Windfohr Marion.
In 2020, Marion put the ranch on the market; the following year, Sheridan and a group of investors purchased the ranch. As the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported at the time, Sheridan’s group shelled out a whopping $320 million to become the Four Sixes’ new owners.
As Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter, the iconic Texas ranch had actually been his inspiration for “Yellowstone.” “I grew up in the shadow of the Four Sixes,” Sheridan said. “To just get one of their horses was a status symbol, because they’re so well trained. This was the ranch I based [the show’s] scope and operation on, because it didn’t exist in Montana. Most ranches there had already been carved up. They’d already lost it.”
