Taylor Sheridan Pulls the Plug on Major Yellowstone Spinoff: “There’s Never Going to Be One”

Taylor Sheridan has mapped out an idea of where his cowboys won’t go – and disappointedly, it’s the Four Sixes ranch. In conversation with the Rodeo Time podcast, Yellowstone co-creator finally shared an update about the highly anticipated spinoff 6666, which was set to be based on his real-life ranch, the Four Sixes, in West Texas.

Taylor Sheridan Is Unwilling to Fictionalize Four Sixes

In the interview, Sheridan expressed his firm unwillingness to fictionalize the ranch, as he doesn’t want to disrespect the real people working there.

He said, “There’s never going to be one; I would never fictionalize that ranch. People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that.”

He continued, “So now I’m trivializing and fictionalizing something where real people work, and they raise their families there, and I could never do that to them. I could never do that to the cowboys that dedicated themselves, and everybody that works on that ranch.”

Notably, Taylor and a group of other investors purchased that ranch in 2020. He even expressed he is “very protective” of it and wants to be “very, very careful” as he takes the responsibility.

It all started after the events of Yellowstone season 4, when Jefferson White’s character, Jimmy Hurdstrom, was sent to 6666 to learn to become proper cowboy. Soon after, in 2022, Paramount at its Upfront Presentation, announced that it would be developing the story, with Jefferson White’s Jimmy and Ryan Bingham’s Walker at the centre.

In fact, it was more than just an idea – there was even an official synopsis describing 6666 as a ranch “where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing.”

For the show, Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari were signed up as executive producers, with 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios set to helm the production.

As much as it hurts not to see more of Jimmy’s world, Sheridan still has plenty to offer from his cowboy universe.

1883 — The first spinoff, released in 2021, doubled down on the origin of Dutton family, tracing how they wound up in Montana, and came to own the land that would later go on to become the Yellowstone ranch.

1923 – Premiered in 2022, it jumped forward from 1883 to focus on James Dutton’s brother, Jacob Dutton and his wife, Cara Dutton.

Marshals – A spinoff and sequel to the original, neo-Western police procedural television series Marshals premiered earlier this year on CBS. It followed fan favourite character Kayce Dutton, one of John Dutton III’s kids from Yellowstone, and his journey after leaving the ranch at the end of Season 5.

Dutton Ranch – Also a spin-off and prequel, this series brought back Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively, as they try to rebuild their new life in South Texas.
