While you may recognize James Van Der Beek from his time on “Dancing with the Stars,” he first gained fame on “Dawson’s Creek” before appearing in movies like “Varsity Blues.” Now, the star is selling off memorbilia from both the show and the film via an auction. The proceeds will go towards cancer-related costs that the star and his family are facing.
“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now,” James said, according to People.
He added, “While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years.”
The star is working with Propstore to hold the auction as a part of their Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, which is happening December 5-7, 2025.
The Auction Will Include Special Items
GettyIf you’re interest in the auction is piqued, then you’ll surely want to know that it’s set to include wardrobe, props and pieces from the set “that trace [James’] career-defining moments,” per People.
“Dawson’s Creek fans will have a chance to own the necklace Dawson gifted Joey for prom, which is estimated to bring in anywhere from $26,400 to $52,800,” People noted. “Dawson’s pilot episode outfit is expected to bring in up to nearly $4,000, as well as other items from the series, which ran from 1998 to 2003.”
Beyond that, “[f]or fans of Van Der Beek’s work in 1999’s Varsity Blues, there are the actor’s film-worn cleats and West Caana Coyotes Hat.”
This Isn’t the First Time James Has Sold Items for Cancer-Related Costs
GettyWhile the pieces in James’ auction have never been offered to the public before, this isn’t the first time he’s sold items to help cover the costs related to cancer.
In December 2024, USA Today reported that James had posted an Instagram Story offering a glimpse at “lookalike jerseys from the 1999 sports movie ‘Varsity Blues,’ promoting the products and writing ‘Order one and get a signed one in time for Christmas.'” He added that “#cancerisexpensive.”
On November 22, he posted a now-deleted Instagram post explaining that “100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own).”

Growing up in a Texas city I idolized this movie I played high school football but what James is doing is heroic for cancer research not only mox but tweeter Billy Bob wendle let’s make it happen people one day we can rid this world of cancer but for now let the world k own the coyotes are there without Kilmer lol rawk on people
Natural help is cheap/works awesome. Recent cancers maybe due to parasites so Ivermectin/Fenbendazole may help or no: gluten/dairy/soy/sugar/GMO corn, soy, canola oil/Vit D3/sunlight/Zn/Mg/fish oil/Essiac/Vit C and more may help.
