Veteran character actor Tom Noonan, known for unforgettable roles in films like “RoboCop 2” and “Manhunter,” has died at age 74, according to The Daily Mail.

Noonan passed away on Feb. 14, 2026, with the news confirmed days later by colleagues and friends who paid tribute to his long, eclectic career.

Over nearly five decades in Hollywood, Noonan built a reputation as a towering presence on screen, often cast in haunting villain roles but also respected for his work in independent films and theater.

A Career Defined by Memorable Performances

Born April 12, 1951, in Greenwich, Connecticut, Noonan didn’t start acting until his late twenties, but he quickly became one of Hollywood’s most distinctive character actors.

He was widely known for portraying chilling antagonists, including Francis Dollarhyde in Manhunter, the villain Cain in “RoboCop 2,” and roles in films such as “Heat,” “Last Action Hero” and “Synecdoche, New York,” per IMDb.

Directors often praised his ability to bring depth to unsettling characters, and fans remembered him as a performer who could command attention with quiet intensity.

He also found success behind the camera. His independent film “What Happened Was…” earned critical acclaim and festival recognition, showcasing his skills as a writer and director.

Friends and collaborators described Noonan as a thoughtful artist who moved easily between big Hollywood productions and smaller indie projects, always prioritizing storytelling over fame.

Tributes Pour In From Hollywood

Following news of his death, fellow actors and filmmakers shared memories of working with Noonan and praised his kindness and professionalism.

Director Fred Dekker, who cast Noonan in “The Monster Squad,” said the actor’s performance was a highlight of his career and called him a “gentleman and scholar,” reflecting the deep respect he earned among peers.

Colleagues also noted how Noonan’s imposing physical presence contrasted with his warm personality off-screen.

Though best known for darker roles, fans say his performances revealed humanity and nuance that elevated every project he joined.

Noonan is survived by his family and a legacy of films and television work that influenced generations of actors and filmmakers. His credits stretched from cult classics to prestige dramas, proving his versatility and dedication to the craft.

For movie lovers who remember his chilling villains and unforgettable characters, Tom Noonan’s work will remain a lasting part of Hollywood history.

Fans quickly took to social media to express their sadness.

“He was great in last action hero. That movie always got me as a kid,” one user wrote.

Another added, “The first movie I saw him in was Robocop 2 as the villain, Cain. He had a very unique and memorable presence in movies. May he rest in peace.”
