HGTV Star Opens Up About Two Devastating Losses: ‘How Blessed We Were to Have Known Them’

Nicole Curtis has had a devastating start to 2026. The former HGTV star opened up about the loss of her dear friends to cancer.

Nicole Curtis Lost Two Friends to Cancer

Earlier this month the former “Rehab Addict” star shared the tragic news of the death of a dear friend.

“He passed away,” she wrote in her Instagram Story over a photo of a firepit. While Curtis did not name the friend who passed, she added, “For those of you who been praying for him, please continue for his family. The broken hearts are many.”

Curtis called the unnamed friend, the “best whistler I’ve ever met.”

In her Thursday, April 16, email newsletter, Curtis revealed that she lost another friend as well.

“Two amazing fathers, the guys that remind everyone to make a moment great and that you, always, knew they were there,” she wrote, according to TV Insider. “Ironically, they never met — one in Minneapolis and one in Detroit, but knowing them both — they would have been fast friends and I can’t help to think they will be running into each other now.”

She added, “Insane similarities and how blessed we were to have known them both.”

Curtis went on to thank her fans for their well wishes, writing, “Thank you to all of you for your prayers that have been following along. Prayers to any of you going through loss – we know and send love. May God Bless you all and T and T – go kick some ass together up there.”

Nicole Curtis’ Career Update

After her hit show was canceled earlier this year, Curtis has been using her time to re-evaluate her career with no signs of slowing down.

“It’s been the Twilight Zone over here. From media reports, you would think my world ended, but if you know me, as all of you on this email do, you know that the value of my life was never placed on a show,” Curtis wrote in her newsletter, according to TV Insider. “My past few months, my heartache wasn’t due to this bs, but a real life problem.”

She went on to say that she will be relaunching her YouTube channel.

With 2,500 subscribers, Nicole Curtis Design has not shared a new video in nearly a decade.

“We dug up my old YouTube channel and you can subscribe there as my guys have things in motion,” she explained. “And by things, I mean house episodes, Behind the scenes and anything else they conjure up from my days of really being on a job site as I have been for 30 + years -not just to pretend on TV.”
