Christian Brown, the son of country singer-songwriter Marty Brown, became a dad four days before auditioning for “American Idol” in the fall of 2025. But while season 24 kicks into high gear, Christian’s focus is no longer on music; it’s on his baby boy’s health.
On March 9, 2026, 23-year-old Christian told WHAS that his son, Isaiah, had been diagnosed with coarctation of the aorta, a congenital heart disease, and needed life-saving surgery.
Christian Brown Has Been Focusing on His Family Since Leaving ‘American Idol’
Judges Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie loved Christian’s audition, during which he sang “Wildest Dreams,” and happily awarded him a golden ticket to Hollywood Week, which was held for the first time in Nashville shortly after auditions were filmed.
Christian didn’t advance beyond Hollywood Week, when 127 contestants were whittled down to 30, but it’s not clear if the decision was his or the judges’. When WHAS interviewed Christian and his wife at the hospital in Louisville, Kentucky — about two hours away from their home in Franklin — he said nothing could come between him and his family, even if a record contract fell into his lap.
“If I had a record deal sitting in front of my face and my son in the other hand, I’d choose my son anytime over anything,” he said.
According to the Mayo Clinic, little Isaiah’s condition is a narrowing of the heart’s main artery, the aorta, and is typically present from birth, often causing difficulties in breathing and feeding for babies. If left untreated, coarctation of the aorta can be fatal, and even after surgery, it requires lifelong monitoring.
Christian Brown Sang His Dad’s Song About Parenthood in ‘American Idol’ Audition
Christian’s dad — a 90s country artist who also wrote songs for stars including Trace Adkins, Brooks & Dunn, and Tracy Byrd — cried through his son’s emotional audition, during which he sang “Wildest Dreams,” a song Marty wrote about parenthood.
“It’s a song about how much you love somebody,” Christian told the judges. “I’m gonna be singing it for my dad. It’s my way of telling him I love him too.”
Marty knows exactly how Christian is feeling amid his son’s health crisis, since his other son, Colin, was also diagnosed with coarctation of the aorta at three years old, per WHAS. Christian said he remembers accompanying their family to the Ronald McDonald House after his brother’s surgery, which took place at the same hospital where Isaiah is being treated.
DisneyChristian told WHAS that he now understands how hard it was for his parents, recognizing “the sleepless nights my mom was spending with my brother, making sure he was okay.”
“Now we’re here with our son, and it’s like this full circle moment,” he said.
Although Isaiah’s health crisis may have caused Christian to put his music aspirations on hold for now, he told WHAS that his son is inspiring him to start writing music again.

prayers go out to your son and you.
