‘American Idol’ Alum Danny Gokey Shares Update After Serious Nose Injury
GettySeason 8 “American Idol” alum Danny Gokey is celebrating the fact that he didn’t suffer a broken nose while playing basketball.
Taking to Instagram, Gokey shared an update on his injury while sporting a black eye.
“Never come up to me and tell me that Santa Claus is the main of Christmas when we all know—me and all my homies know—that it’s all about Jesus. Because thems fighting words. Anyways… the tour is back on. Christmas is happening,” he said, adding, “Not a broken nose!”
In yet another update, Gokey was seen with two black eyes as a result of his injury, but was in good spirits. “I wasn’t expecting that! But I guess that’s how hard of a hit I took in the face. Whew,” he shared.
Before his update, Gokey took to social media to share what looked like a gruesome nose injury after getting hit in the face by someone’s shoulder while playing basketball. In the video, the singer had blood covering his face and had bandages in his nose to stop the bleeding.
At the time, he asked fans for prayers, concerned that he might have broken his nose and potentially have to cancel his Christmas tour.
“If you have a moment please say a prayer for me. That this heals quickly and that it doesn’t affect my singing and touring. Those are things I love to do 🫶🏼🙏🏼,” he captioned the video.
Gokey Continued His Christmas Tour Despite His Appearance
Thankfully, Gokey didn’t have to cancel the rest of his Christmas tour and returned to performing, bruised face and all.
Gokey joined fellow Christian artist Natalie Grant for their annual “Celebrate Christmas Tour” in Nashville, Tennessee, on Dec. 13, where the two even joked about Gokey’s bruised face before they took the stage.
“We want you to be there, so I don’t have to do that again,” Grant jokingly said while pointing at Gokey’s face as the two asked fans to join them for their show in Missouri on Dec. 14. In fact, Gokey wore his black eyes proudly and without any makeup in the clip.
The singing duo is marking a decade of their beloved holiday concert. The tour began on Dec. 4 in Tampa, Florida, and will conclude in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 21.
For those who can’t make Gokey’s Christmas concert, he recently debuted a new holiday track titled “The Moment the Whole World Changed.”
Gokey finished in the Top 3 of Season 8 of “American Idol,” behind winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert.
