We’re two-thirds of the way through 2025, and so far it’s proving to be a big year for Jelly Roll, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood! They’re all on the list!
“American Idol’s” first-ever artist-in-residence and judges all make the list of the Top 40 Most Played Country Songs of 2025 according to Mediabase, a music industry service that monitors airplay in more than 150 markets.
Read on to see which songs have earned them a spot (or two!) on the list.
Carrie Underwood Hits Big with Cody Johnson Duet
Carrie Underwood’s duet with Cody Johnson of “I’m Gonna Love You” is nominated for a “Best Country” VMA on the September 7 awards show- the first time there’s ever been a country music category.
The song comes in number 26 among the 40 most played country songs this year so far.
And Carrie’s duet partner says it just makes sense that the VMAs are paying attention.
Cody Johnson told Wide Open Country, “I think that the MTV Awards were very smart for doing that,” Johnson says. “Because they’re going, ‘Hey, man, country music’s growing out the seams. Maybe we should include these country bumpkins.’ And you know, it’s going to do nothing but help them too, and I think it’s cool.”
The song, which went to number one after its release, is Carrie Underwood’s 29th chart-topper.
“I feel like [the story of this song’s journey] is just a testament to ‘Gods got it,’” Carrie said at an event celebrating the song’s success, according to Music Row. “Theres so many things that are unsure about the music business. … No matter what happens, God knows what he’s doing. I feel very blessed and honored today to have played a small part in [the songwriters’] journeys and the song’s journey.”
Her duet partner Cody Johnson agreed, saying, “God does work in mysterious ways. I think each person on the stage is proof that if you give it to Him and let Him work his timeline, not your timeline, that’s how monumental things like this happen… To every single person in this room, thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing not only in me, but believing in this song.”
Luke Bryan’s ‘A Country Song Came On’ Dominates Airwaves & Tour
Luke Bryan just celebrated his 32nd number one hit on country radio for “A Country Song Came On.”
The song comes in at number 27 on the 40 most played country songs this year so far.
In an Instagram post on August 18, Luke thanked his fans, writing, “Thank y’all for making #CountrySongCameOn my 32nd # 1 at country radio”
Luke has just two rescheduled stops on his tour by that same name before moving on to his “Farm Tour.“
That tour brings concerts to America’s farmers, setting up stages right in the middle of the farmland in small towns throughout the country. This year, Bryan expanded that tour, bringing three shows to California farmers for the first time in May.
Jelly Roll’s ‘I Am Not Okay’ Does More Than OK On the Charts
Jelly Roll’s iconic hit “I Am Not Okay” comes in at number 28 on the 40 most played country songs this year so far.
The song has taken on a much deeper meaning than just a chart topper though.
While Jelly Roll himself has had many memorable moments performing the song for fans, perhaps his most memorable was on the Grand Ole Opry stage.
Jelly introduced a group of students from a local Nashville school, Ruby Major Elementary, who brought both Jelly Roll and the audience to tears with their performance of the emotional song.
The children had first learned the song to sing it for students at Antioch High School after a deadly school shooting there.
After the performance, one of the kids told News Channel 5, “Music can change your whole life.”
Jelly Roll, who graduated from Antioch High School, said, “Music is powerful and can help at any point in their lives … and these kids made me wanna cry.”
During the kids’ performance, he encouraged them saying, “We’re all gonna be ok. Sing it for me louder, who’s holding on for dear life?”
Jelly Roll Scores the Most-Played Country Song of 2025
Jelly Roll not only makes the list of the Top 40 Most Played Country Songs of 2025, he tops it.
His mega-hit “Liar” comes in at number one on that list.
Like Carrie Underwood and Cody Johnson’s duet of “I’m Gonna Love You,” Jelly Roll’s “Liar” is also nominated for the first-ever “Best Country” VMA on the September 7 awards show.
Also nominated are Chris Stapleton, for “Think I’m in Love With You,” Lainey Wilson’s “4x4xU,” Megan Moroney’s “Am I Okay?” and Morgan Wallen’s “Smile.”
“Liar” is Jelly’s ninth number one hit. He wrote the song alongside Ashley Gorley, Ben Johnson and Taylor Phillips.
